New news on Cutler

BTW, did you forget we have McDaniels, who turned Matt Cassell into a pretty decent QB?

I hope McDaniels isn't that full of himself that he actually thinks he can turn Kyle- "The Bottle" into the next wonder kid QB. Let me give you a hint as to why Cassell succeeded last year........... it was the New England system! Denver has a lousy defense and a diminishing O-Line. No way The Bottle steps in a replaces Cutler or Elway.

I do like the picks you've accumulated for the disgruntled QB though. Looks like you made the best of a bad situation. Just don't be naive to think Orten can be your future at QB.

I respectfully disagree ...
see post 117, they gave up a TON
Bears will be lucky to win 10 games.
I agree. The Bears are morons. Cutler has no O- line in Chicago and no one to throw too. Denver made out big. reminds me of the Herschel Walker trade. Denver got a QB, 2 - #1's and a #3.

Even though we gave up 1 pick too many, I still think the Bears get the better of this trade. They also knew that Pace would sign today as well. O'line will improve, need 1 more receiver, but the Bears play in a weak division, (so does Denver), but this trade makes the Bears the division favorite, doesn't let Mn or Det get him. Plus, it ends the stigma of the Bears not having a QB. Cutler is a life long Bears fan, he'll be thrilled to play here.

eh. I don't necessarily agree with that. The Vikings are still a very scary team.

The bears are fine, they could have given that up with what they have. They have a good enough OL to allow jay to pass. We have Devin Hester wich is a huge threat, In the past we couldnt allow him to use his speed on the field as no one could throw that far. Now we can let him run and Jay can hit his target (devin) Devin was decent last year, wich was his first year at WR, This year, this is going to be one sick combination! Can you say Deep pass! Tocuhdown! If devin is getting double teamed you have Greg Olson as an alternative who is decent, Rashide Davis is another decent target, all proven. The defence is proven itself time in and time out. Last year the D was what saved our asses plenty of times, I cant name the countless times where we would have won the game if we had a qb that could do more than what kyle or Rex could. IF we has someone like a cutler, I think the bears would have made it to the division, if not the superbowl. This year the bears have heard their fans, and I think we have alot to look forward too. Now lets see what kind of Free market deals we can snatch up.

Notable free agent WR's:

Torry Holt
TJ Houshmandzadeh
Marvin Harrison
Devery Henderson
Hank Basket
Antonio Bryant
Amani Toomer
Bobby Engram
Shaun McDonald
Lance Moore

The Bears have plenty of receivers to chose from.

IMO, a Devery Henderson/Devin Hester combo would be sick! Both quick burner, long receiving threats. Perfect for J-Cut and his rocket arm.

T.J. has already signed with Seattle.

It wasn't that Devin couldnt catch, it was the QB's we had sucked and could never get him the ball in the right spot. They were allways over or underthrowing him. I think this year is going to be a defining year for the bears.

No Hester can't catch and he can't take a hit. If it was not for the lack of receivers he never would have even played the WR position. HE is a very good return specialist.

Housh went to Seatle already....Henderson or Bryant would be good fits in Chicago.

As a long-time Bears fan (30+ years), I can say that I am really excited about this trade. Those of you that don't normally follow the Bears, have to understand the pain we've been through over the years never really having a "real" quarterback. Chicago has always been a "running team" that plays tough 'D', but never had a good QB. It was great watching Payton run all over everyone in the 70's and 80's, but since then it's been rough. Jim McMahon was the closest thing (in my lifetime) to a decent quarterback, who when on the field, you thought could actually win a game for the team, but he couldn't keep it all together. And having to watch the 15 or so starting QBs shuffle through here since Brett Favre came to Green Bay was horrible.

The Bears needed to make this deal to try for the ultimate "what if" every Bears fan has been waiting for. What if we had a really good QB for a change??? They obviously have never been able to develop one themselves. So it the best chance was to come by a trade. Along comes Denver, drafting Cutler #1 a few years ago, grooming him, sending him to the Pro Bowl, and then offering him up to the Bears. So did the Bears give up a "TON"? not in this fan's eyes! Based on the past track record of the percentage of #1 picks making any kind of difference, I'll take a 25-year old Pro Bowl quarterback for those odds any day of the week!

And I don't want to hear about Orton's win/loss record vs. Cutler's. IMHO, Orton didn't really win any of those games. The defense did, and he just didn't lose it for them. Cutler managed to win a few games himself despite having an average to slightly below average defense. The Bears D is still 'good', but it ain't what it was a few years ago when they went to the Super Bowl. So we need more out of the offense this year. So now with a good QB added to some good young talent (Olsen, Forte and potentially Hester) on offense, this might just be what the team needs to kick it into the next level this year. At least on paper :) I can't wait for football season!

I'm happy for Chicago and I understand why both teams made the trade. The NFL is a better league when Da Bears are relevant. Should be an exciting time to be a Chicago Sports fan.

Hope it works out for both clubs. :up

I think Cutler got exactly what he deserved, traded to a team with a crap offensive line, crappier wide receivers and inept offensive coaches. Bears have no way to draft an impact player now. They are probably worse off for making this trade.

How do you figure? The Bears were 1 game away from wining their division last year with a back-up quality QB! Imagine what Cutler could improve on.

Sure the Bears paid a lot, but I'm starting to believe this trade has true potential.

The Bears traded away this year's 18th overall pick, next year's 1st and 3rd rounder. What are the chances they get a better QB at that spot if they kept that draft pick in the draft? And how long would it take to find out? Who knows. The fact of the matter is, Cutler is a somewhat proven commodity and a massive improvement on what they had. The Bears now have a team that's ready to compete for a division title and Cutler is ready to step in now and take over the gaping hole they had at QB.
