Well I went with the premier package.. Install went well and I got the SWM LNB with slimline dish since I ordered 4 sd's and 1 HDdvr.. for a total of 6 tuners.. So far so good but I have to say i'm a bit dissipointed that the hddvr is a referbished hr21-700 series box:mad:

I have read many posts on this forum regarding luck of the draw but I still think as a new subscriber I should have received at the least a new DVR hr22 or hr23??

I haven't called to complain or ask why.. Wonder if it's worth the effort?

Don't worry about the unit being Refurbished, I've been using a refurbed HR20 for a few years now.
Unless you want to do it on principle.

Isnt it also based on what the installer has in stock?

I also have a new install this coming Thursday. I ordered Premier with HD DVR. Since I've never had satellite TV before,I'm convince that whatever they bring me,as long as it works, has got to be better than Charter Cable, which I have now. I suppose I could always expand into other rooms later. As long as the satellite dish does what it's supposed to do,give me both HD & local channels, does it matter what kind(whether SWM or not) it is? I'm sorry,I'm just happy my foot's in the door.

Yeah, I guess its not the end of the world, This 21-700 seems to work pretty well. I'm an x- Tivo customer via the previous cable TV I had. I loved the Tivo and this HR21-700 seems in most respects just as fast as my Tivo Series 3 HD unit. I guess the biggest issue for me is the recording time Double the recording time is a nice plus and I just wish I had received one of the 500Gig units, I think the 22/23 series to get that... since it seems beyond that the 21,22,23 boxes are pretyy mutch the same beast.

23 is a completely different animal internally, and most refurbed 21s have 500gb hdds. but yes the receiver you receive is entirely dependent on what the tech has on his truck. and what the tech has on his truck is dependent on what the office gives him.

Yes.

Have you considered going to an External Hard Drive with capacity of your choice ?

Many have added thier own with great success.

Twiz, If the 23 is a different box internally, does that translate into performance or feature improvements versus the earlier models 21, 22? Seems this is a constantly argued point of contention in the various forums.

Yes, I will consider that Jimbo.. Any suggestion on a model? One that's quiet and affordable.

I've always used and really like the Seagate models, make sure it's one that does ESATA, it will say on the box that it has a ESATA interface.
I have the Seagate 750, potentially going to get a 1.5 TB or maybe 2.0 eventually.

Remember though, if your box dies, so do your recordings (this is the same with the internal as well, obviously if your box dies you can't watch the internal HD).

If you do have to change boxes out the new unit will reformat the drive initially ... that said, they all do that, just wanted you to know that.
