I have a 5 tv install and the tech advised they aren’t allowed to install genie 2 which provides 7 paths to new customers. I would have to upgrade in 6 to 12 months??? He said no way for him to put it on the order. Anyone know of a way for new customer to get a genie 2?

the genie 2 is not ready for prime time
get an hr54 and either hd receivers or hd dvrs
much better system

Buy one from solid signal.

Or play Phone Rep Roulette
Doctor j

I called and spoke to sales dept. was told they can’t modify the order that when the tech comes out to have him call tech support to modify the order. Told the tech this and he said they won’t modify it but he will come out. If he won’t install genie 2 I’ll just cancel the order when he is here.

New customer install is unable to get genie 2 modified. I could find no North American center who is able to modify the order because they advise it isn’t an option. Thus had to pay $50 for an hd dvr with genie 1 and 3 minis.

Definitely order from a retailer. That way you pick your own equipment.

It’s one of those things that no matter what you get $&@$! I ordered via directv/BJ’s so I can get a $200 gift card. Ended up getting the genie 1 with 3 minis and paid $199 for the hd dvr 200.

So what Genie did you get ?
D* since the beginning of time will not let you choose your model .... A Genie is a Genie is a Genie they say ...

Of course we know better.

Your probably better off if you got the HR54.

Hr24-200 and hr54-500.

I still feel like I got financially raped when I had to pay $199 for the HDdvr.

Thats the cost to do what you want in most cases.
You made the right choice though ...

At least that’s good to hear... on top of the $199, I have to pay $7 plus tax for it every month.

It will be interesting to see what happens when it rains hard....

Look at it the way I do ....
The Sats point to the South west ... most of the weather comes from the ... south west ... thus occasional rain fade when weather is real bad, the better the dish is aligned the longer signal will last.
Anyways, IF my Sat signal starts to go out, I go outside and pick stuff up, knowing it will be raining soon.

Also, generally, if I do lose signal its never for very long and I'm back up and running often times by the time the storm gets here.

Just think, If I have Cable and the drop comes down and needs replaced, I'm out of service for a day or two ... with D*, my service is back up once the storm passes.

Sounds like the problem the OP had was that Genie 2 is initially to be offered for current customer upgades only from DIRECTV.

Has it been extended yet to new customers?

I spoke with customer service yesterday. We need to get rid of my HR24’s

No thank you. Will stick with my HR 54
I'm sure they would tell me that too ...
I have a HR24 thats acting kinda weird, but they can't force me to a HS17 (and clients) ...
They know I have one for the RV, so unless they would like to give me a second Genie (which they won't even though it wouldn't be in the same system) I'll stick with what I have ... If I have to replace the HR24, there are no other options at the moment other than another HR24, that I'm aware of.
