New Dish products and promotions
Dish Network, the nation's No. 2 satellite-TV provider, has a slate of new products and promotions set to launch. They were unveiled this week at the Douglas County-based company's annual retailer summit, which attracted 3,000 attendees.
Here's a glimpse:
Tailgater — Essentially a satellite dish in a cooler-like case, (see photo, left). The portable dish weighs just 10 pounds and gives campers, tailgaters and others easy access to Dish's satellite-TV service. The Tailgater costs $350 and requires existing Dish subscribers to take their set-top boxes with them and use a coaxial cable to hook to the dish and TV. Others can receive a set-top box by subscribing to a month-by-month service plan. The Tailgater will be available in a few months.
XiP Multi-room HD System — This allows you to watch HD video content on multiple TV sets. The service requires a small XiP 110 set-top box that will released later this year. Pricing wasn't revealed, though Dish typically leases its equipment.
Sling adapter — The device, previously sold for $99, will be given away for free to subscribers of Dish's mid- tier and above packages as part of a new promotion that starts in about two weeks. The adapter plugs into a DVR set-top box and allows subscribers to watch live and recorded TV programming on their laptops, tablets and smartphones.
