Yes but FIOS can use a cable card and then you can use it with a newer model Tivo..
Yes and also can employ a HTPC that records 4 channels at once.

I didn't set out to be the poster boy for not remembering the yellow-# shortcuts (this one for OTA setup) at all, especially after formatting them from a dishsupport posting for an EKB 922 tips page. Another win for the "ugly" numbered menu, at least for those who will use the numbers.sethwell said:yellow-0

i am a new dish customer and i am happy so far. started 11/1/12 had direct for 14 years.
i signed up to watch the programing NOT the guide.
really don't see the big deal here.
There is...in California anyway. Here, a consumer has 30 days to cancel these sorts of contracts without penalty (Cell phone, Cable, Gyms, etc.) It almost makes up for paying 4 times what the same house would cost anywhere else. Why can't customers cancel when Dish misleads so egregiously? There should be a law against this. At LEAST give this guy a 922!
And, you turned out to be correct. The Dish apologists are out in full force, it seems. They're almost as bad as Apple fanboys.Very few here will be sympathetic. I started a thread a few weeks ago about the weaknesses of the Dish technology stack and pointed out the archaic user interface, and how it just doesn't compare to the state-of-the-art being set by DirecTV, Apple, and TiVO. I was resoundingly rebuked and told that the UI of the system doesn't matter, so this this thread should be fun to watch.
You are correct. It look like crap. Wait until you get a load of the OnDemand UI. Holy DOS 3.0 Batman!Just ordered and had a new 722K installed yesterday
I spoke with sales last week and they walked me thru the process i explained that i was coming from a newer model TIVO with comcast and wanted a nice user interface they showed me a few screenshots from there web site. so i moved forward with the sale. they installed in yesterday and i started to play around with it last night. and i cannot believe how bad the UI looked it was 3 year old look and feel.
It wasnt what i was shown on by there sales person.
i reached out to customer support and spoke with there exec support person. and explained my concerned they didnt seem to understand my concern.
apprently the screen shots are from the 922 which is no longer aval.
so i requested to cancel my service. they would not do it without me paying a early cancellation fee. Remember i have only had the dish for a few hours.
so not a happy camper!
Just my rant.
any thoughts comments ???

I didn't read every post. Were there any of the obligatory "don't let the door hit you in the ass" replies?
Level-headed response. If you're not bashing E* at every turn, you run the risk of being labeled a fanboy or apologist on here. But only in a general indirect cowardice way, not a direct accusation.I think it has been established many times in many threads and many posts that the 722 interface isn't the best, but FAR from the worst. If you look at my post ( http://www.satelliteguys.us/dish-ne...stomer-hate-user-interface-3.html#post2761127 ) you'll see that most DVR systems don't look much better. TiVo is far from a "state-of-the-art" interface. DirecTV's guide looks prettier than the 722 interface but not as good as 922/Hopper/Joey. 722 also has better functionality (IMHO) which, to me, means a lot more than eye candy.
If I want eye candy, I'll just get on my $1500 computer with an i7 2600K @ 4.3GHz, 560 Ti SLI, 12GB 1600MHz DDR3. Beats the hell outta any set-top box, but since the 722 has more functionality (when it comes to DISH Network,) I usually prefer it for TV, and the computer for games (which is what I built it for.)
If somebody defends the Dish UI, they are at the very least a Dish apologist, and at worst a fanboy.
You may personally be willing to put up with the antiquated design. But, that does not mean that it isn't, in fact, antiquated.
Simply stated in a level-headed way.
To me, it's not a question of how antiquated the look of the UI is, it's a question of priorities. The UI works, and it's relatively quick compared to other provider's UIs I've seen. I place more importance on the programming content than the Dish UI. Probably because I spend a helluva lot more time watching content than worrying about how old the menus look...If somebody defends the Dish UI, they are at the very least a Dish apologist, and at worst a fanboy.
