I agree with you on Sling. I like the concept but they are going to need to add a cloud DVR feature like Sony's PlayStation Vue offers to stay competitive. I found myself having to watch too many commercials on Sling. I'd rather watch shows recorded to be able to forward through the commercials.

It is almost like Latino Dos... without the spanish channels. OMG! This is the perfect package for me. I lose the ESPN's, a couple RSN's, but I'll survive. And the best part, no Fox News of The "Weather" Channel! I'd probably add locals (though for $10 a month may be worth trying to fine tune my antenna setup) and definitely the kids add-on and call it a day and save some serious mollah! Go from Top 200 at $80 to $35 (base) and $10 (kids) -> $45. Heck, I could add the National Action for another $10 and only be at $55. But more likely just stick to $45. $35 a month in savings... my 'too good to be true' alarm is blaring.
$34.99 is a bargain! You can't have a cheap price and everything. Can you find this type of package with access to a lifetime DVR for anything remotely close?
So, I'm curious, is it HD? When will it be shown on the website? Any other fees? Are we limited in premium access? This just seems too good to be true. The base package is entirely what I needed.

Too expensive based on what though? Sounds like you are picking numbers out of the air. I would need a good comparison, are those channels a good number some of the most watched non sports available in a package for less? (I do notice no History Channel oversight by the poster maybe?) Does Sling include all those channels at the base price? What is the Sling price if I add the missing channels? (If you can) How does this package compare to the Smart Package that costs $26.99 if it had no Locals? How does it compare to the Top 120 (not +) ...
Each package really comes down to the value of the channels the subscriber wants. The channels in the package seem to have a very good cross section and includes some of the older Top 250 channels like Cooking, DIY, and NBCSN. It does not include a number of channels including a bunch of the *cough* news *cough* channels and the pricey ESPN suite. For $35, if no other strings (HD?, access to premiums, etc...) seems like an awesome deal because you have the DVR to record whatever you want for however long you want. It seems like the best possible compromise between Dish and SlingTV.
I LOVE this idea of packs. I have suggested this type of system for years, since I read that Canadian satellite systems used them. NO SPORTS if I don't want them , YES! But when I add them up for what I want ,there is only like $9.00 difference between top 200 and the flex packs. OF course there is $19.00 difference between top 250 and the flex packs on what I want. Either way it finally removes sports channels I never watch and have to support whether I want to or not, as well as the kid channels we don't need anymore. The beginnings of ala cart has finally started.
I agree with what you posted. I would like to see the official line-up from DISH but as a quick look from what Link posted @ $34.99 compared to the Smart Pack @ $26.99 if it theoretically did not have locals seems like for some this would be a much better value. Again as a quick first look I can see it may offer some or even many less of a need to give up as many channels to save. Depending on your interests even adding a pack may mean more savings than the regular packages.
Good points and you bring up why I would need to see the official way DISH is selling it and the channels you get including with what add on packages. On the surface this may be somewhat of a breakthrough which no question MikeD-C05 has been saying is needed for quite sometime.

I wouldn't even know about this new Flex package if I hadn't seen the new Add-On packages on my online account (through a glich I assume), since I already have Heartland which is now a Flex add on package (which makes me wonder if future customers can add it to other packages). When I inquired on customer chat, they said I would need to call customer service directly to talk about the Flex and Add On packages...(I didn't even know what Flex was).
Is this going to be a package they don't advertise at all or show online? I'd like to know what channels I am supposed to be getting in the package. Some channels are on free preview but they don't even post that they are, like TV Land was last month.

Sony's Playstation Vue gives you a decent group of basic channels plus ESPN and Fox Sports RSNs for $34.99 a month ($44.99 if you're in a locals market), five screens to watch, cloud DVR with separate profiles for each member of your family or group. That is a pretty decent price for all you get. To get similar channels on Sling including ESPN and Fox Sports its a minimum of $40 with ESPN/Disney Networks only available on one screen and no DVR option.
On the phone right now, and it seems like this is just out of the gate, not quite ready.

Price for Vue is decent, but access to Vue content is limited, and not available on Roku... yet.
These are not new options.
These A la carte options have been options as far back as last August when I signed up.
Only reason you see them under your account is , Your Basepackage doesn't include these channels.
A customer with Top 250 pack, won't see these under "My account",
But you will see them under "My Perks " in the app section on your receiver.

I think Smart Pack is $36.99 vs this one being $34.99, but I won't bicker over $2. The Flex Pack has a few channels that we lost when dropping to Smart Pack though, the main one being AMC - we're The Walking Dead fans !. I would be switching back to AT120 when TWD returns so we'd only save $ for ~3 months....
I actually have a spreadsheet with the various packages, cost, and what channels are carried in each. I've found discrepancies in the different channel line-ups from different lists, webpages on Dish's own site (!), and so on but it's as close as I can get. I should double-check soon as a few channels have been moved down to lower packages too. Anyway, looking at Flex vs Smart, I really like what Flex offers.
Via Dish Chat they pushed me to call. The operator said he was just trained on the new packages and didn't appear to know much else. If someone can find someone that does have answers, these are the questions:
- What is in the base package?
- HD?
- Any DVR restrictions?
- Can we switch back to a Top xxx package after switching to a Flex?
- Any programming restrictions? IE can you still get HBO and what not?
- Presumably no commitment for those not already with one?
- How easy is it to modify packages, ie add one, remove one? The same as usual, 30 days?

I posted the channels I receive on Flex previously in this thread. You get HD and DVR like always. You can switch back to other packages online as usual and add/remove add-on packages. If you want to switch back to the Flex package, you have to call customer service. I get Showtime with the Flex package so premiums can be added as usual. No additional commitments.
