Hi all-- I just purchased a nice, brand-new, unsubscribed, unactivated model 6000 receiver from ebay a short time ago and I was going to activate it on Expressvu.

Only problem is that it came with a D!shNet access card and I was told by several people that I need an Expressvu card # to activate it.

Can I just buy a new, virgin Expressvu card for this receiver and then call in my activation or will I have a problem with the CSR at Expressvu? Will they care about the serial number of the receiver? Do they keep a database of receivers that are branded to them?

Anyone know how this works?

nope...you got taken

ExpressVu receivers and Dish receivers are not interchangable.. The R & S #'s are registered either with Dish or ExpressVu and you can't change it around. Treid to take my Dish 301 and activate it as a ExpressVu 3100...they wouldn't let me because it has dish software and the serial numbers are with them.

Thank you for the response.

This is a new receiver and was still in the sealed plastic when I got it. It has never been activated or had either vu or d!sh software loaded at installation. This is a virgin receiver.

What will happen if I try to activate it with Bell? Are they going to send out the RCMP because the receiver is one that has a d!sh number and I am not supposed to have such a thing? Will they cancel my account for trying? Is it considered a crime to try to turn on a receiver that I have legaly purchased that happens to have a serial number that is in the D!sh database?

What if I just add it to an existing account online? Does the online computer ask for the serial number of the receiver also when I do that or just the access card number?

thanks

it may be new...but they are either a Dish or Bell receiver.

They'll just tell you that they wont activate it because their computers say its a Dish receiver. I tried this with a 301 and they wouldn't allo it (I asked them to see if it was a clean card and they told me they wouldnt activate it because it was a Dish receiver.....I'm a southern subscriber so I dont have my account info :)

If the R & S # are registered as a Dish Network receiver, Bell won't activate it

Thanks for the information, Iceberg.

I guess I will have to get a real bell 6000 receiver.

yep....unfortunatelly...I wanted to get HD when Dish had the $199 deal for the 6K.

Get the 6100...its the new Bell version. (basically an 811 with very few bugs) :)

What you have there is called a expressvu/dish 6000 and is sold on ebay. When you hook it up with the smart card inserted and when you go to menu info, does it have bells phone # or dish's. I can tell you wright know that it is not new. Here in toronto alot of dish recievers are loaded with bell's software and vice versa, very popular here but done for various reasons, that is a unit that was cleaned because of a harsh ecm from bell or dish and the chip inside was re-programed, very hard to do. I see them all the time on ebay, but I see alot of real Vu 6000's also, email them and see if they will exchange or refund. If you are going to pay the provider then I would have picked up a 6100, no card swap ever/no worries with that when you are in the southern provinces and it is cheaper and alot better then the 6000. The 6000 is holding it's value with Vu only is because of obivous reasons.

Dp301-13

Iceberg,

What can I use on dp301-13 besides the yellow card that came with it. I suspect the IRD will need a software change but, which one, I will buy a different card also but which on. Can you help?? I would appreciate tremendously. I have a JTAG with 20 pads. I am at a loss. :no Thanks a Lot.
