Netflix Price Increase

They last had one in October 2023, Dish had 2 increases in that same time period, Comcast and Charter had 4 each, both had 2 in 2023 and 2024.

DirecTV had 3 increases, 2 in 2023, one in 2024

The increases were a lot more than the $1-2 increase Netflix is charging.

Who is the real pig.
The difference being, Netflix does the Netflix type of thing while the others you mentioned are all Cable/Sat types that offer a whole gambit of different channels ...

There fore, they are raising according to what other Streaming companies are doing.

Where the majority of content is reruns, most of that same content is available for free via the Pluto TV type services.

You may enjoy paying that way too much DirecTV for so little new content bill, I do not and even believe YTTV is too much.

Have you ever added up how much new scripted content Netflix puts up every month, more than the Networks and Cable Channels added together-

Which still does not come close to the increases Cable and Satellite has been placing on their customers.

The gap between Streaming Services and Cable/Satellite is bigger than ever.

I really don't know what your issue is with Reruns ... Many, Many, Many people like reruns

I like the old shows, I watch a lot of Me TV and those types, not all of them.
I still watch plenty of Current stuff as well ....

I may start rewatching the Munsters and the Addams Family soon, those are Great Reruns.
I'll watch Bewitched and I dream of Jeanie when I see it on somewhere.
Theres Many more that I enjoyed.

You know what this is pointing out (other than my age) is that a lot of the New stuff Sux, or not my type of show ....

If they want to Fix TV, they need to get rid of all the "REALITY" shows .... as we know theres Nothing REAL about them.

Yes it is ...

I'm glad you see that.

We've been seeing that since oh, I don't know, 2016 or there abouts.

I too like re-watching certain old shows, but after getting access to those shows on an on-demand streaming service, I'd much rather watch them there than on cable. That's just me though. Different people have different preferences.

As for new TV, a lot of it sucks, just like old TV. That said, there is also a ton of really good new stuff -- more than I have time to watch to be sure.

With respect to your comments about "REALITY" shows, I can only assume you are referring to the NFL, NBA, CFB, etc. ;) :D

I have no problem with watching reruns, just the paying for them part, when they are available for free.

As do I.
I may start rewatching the Munsters
On Pluto TV for free.
and the Addams Family
Also on Pluto TV
I'll watch Bewitched

All Reality shows I avoid, including things on the Warner Discovery Channels, like Food Network and HGTV.

They paid WWE 5 BILLION for the 10 year deal for Monday Night Raw. They gotta get their money back

I don’t sub. I can see the results online and view clips if so desired :) never been a subscriber or borrowed anyone’s info for it

i think the issue isn't so much reruns but PAYING for reruns with commercials and paying to not be able to watch what I want, when I want. That is to say, if you're paying $100 (generously cheap) for live TV and some channel has the Munsters on, it's undoubtedly going to have 4 commercial breaks in that half hour, each episode. Whereas you can pay $0 for Pluto or Tubi and watch the Munsters with probably only 2 shorter commercial breaks for FREE.

Additionally, when you're watching live TV and you're craving the Munsters, you better hope it's the current marathon du jour. With the streamers, more often than not, it's just a channel that is dedicated to playing a stream of one constant show.

Now, if live TV had the Munsters with zero ads, now we might be talking about a better value comparison

As for reality shows - they are the cheapest thing to make. The only thing that will kill reality tv is linear tv itself dying.

Seems to me with $1.87 billion in profits for 2024 they could have held out a little longer.
Sorry, they already spent that money on stock buybacks to inflate the stock price, so their execs' stock compensation packages are worth a lot more.

Disclaimer: I don't know that Netflix actually does this, but I assume they do because almost all publicly-traded companies do.

The thing that upsets me the most about this price increase is that it is not needed. Don't tell me it's about investing in new content creation. Profits are up, that means they have more money to spend.

When D+, P+ and the various other ones increased prices, I understood. The most direct, sensible way for them to a profit was to charge more. Even when Comcast, DTV, et al raise prices, I get it too. They have less subs, content providers are demanding more money and so forth. It's a death spiral, but I understand.

Netflix - pure greed. They see they have a market position and and leveraging that position to get more money. Their current profit margin INCLUDES the first year of fees for WWE and all the other things they've been buying/paying for (like NFL Beyonce Bowl), so I am hard pressed to believe that they need more of my money to spend money.

Ah, I LOVED to watch “I Dream of Jeannie!” ESPECIALLY after they made a costume change in the second season. :devilish

For the couple bucks more a month, could they please make finding what content is available... something along the lines of possible?
