Netflix Looking to Take NFL’s Sunday Afternoon Games from Fox and CBS in Next Media Deal

So then here we go- you chop the cord go to streaming to get away from the sports costs baked in to cable/sat, and now the streamers are adding the crap and costs to their own platforms to pass along.
Traditional TV has been losing sports content to streaming the last couple of years, along with less and less new scripted content.

Has not slowed down the price increases yet for Cable/Satellite, which are a much higher amounts than the increases for the streaming services.

Until cable and satellite are gone, which according to you is within the next 5-10 years. Guess where all the price hikes will go then?

The viewers always get f**ked. Streaming was great when it was the wild wild west, but now that everybody has it, they'll begin charging out the yinyang. Looks like we can bet on it.

At the annual loss of 6 Million, Cable/Satellite have, roughly, 50 Million subscribers, so 5 years times 6 million, that will leave them with only 20 Million subscribers .

At 10 years, times 6 Million, a negative 10 Million.

mestevo said it best

I'll worry about ridiculous predictions of services doubling, and tripling in price decades from now when it's a reality, lol.in

Would you Trust them to do the Whole host of Sunday games (excluding Sunday Night)
Not at all. The one thing that I do find appealing is that if a single entity had all the NFL games, I wouldn't need to subscribe to ESPN+, Peacock, NFL Network, Netflix, Amazon and all these services.

Partly why I expect it'll be the current CBS or Fox package they'd bid for rather than the whole thing. Keep multiple competitors in the mix to maximize value and options for the league.

I would expect that also, but who in 4 years will be able to afford it except Netflix?

TV Market will be totally different in 2029.

Disney is the only other one possibly, have no idea if Skydance will want to spend that kind of money with Paramount, Peacock is not setting the world on fire and does not have a global footprint, which the NFL wants, so to expand the audience watching.

Half?

Right now the NFL receives $12-13 Billion from the Networks, so maybe Netflix offers $15 Billion, increase their global audience pricing a couple of dollars more.

But expanding to a global audience might be worth it to the NFL to take $15 Billion, which is still more then what they would get from the networks, if they stuck with the contract until 2033.

Netflix is the best option for that global expansion.

And again, based on current projections, how much could the networks offer in 4 years, based on the dwindling revenues, they might be happy to get the NFL off the books in 2029.
You really are a pie in the sky fella. Netflix subs are Netflix subs because they want the entertainment content Netflix offers. If they wanted sports they wouldn't be subbing in the first place. Assuming that just because they buy up all the NFL content you think they are magically going to grow another 60-80 million new subs? If all these people are out there, where are they now? You really think soccer happy Europe is going to clammer to sub? Don't put your house up for collateral when you bet the farm.

Hmmm ... thats how it was back in '94 before the Sunday Ticket became a thing ... you got what they wanted you to see, the local network game.

Unfortunately, with everyone wanting a piece of the money, it keep getting splintered, eventually, we'll have about 10 different ways to see the games, on 10 different networks, streaming services, that IS what a Streaming service is afterall, another Network of shows we'll say. (seeing apparently, Channels isn't the right terminology any more.

There MAY be Others by then.

And it's affordable. If I'm forced to pay $50 a month for Netflix because they corner the market on the NFL, I'll drop my sub immediately
Its affordable ?????
If you want the basic of basics.
I pay over $30 a month for it, thats UP there.
Only reason I still have it is its covering 2 of us, so it is more justified.

Yes, easily possible, 80 Million in four years, that is 20 Million a year.

Do you know how many they added in 2024…..39 Million.

Here in the United States, there is still 60 Million Households that does not have Netflix.

Worldwide, there are 2.3 Billion Households, Netflix is only in 300 Million of them, so yes, there is a potential for growth.

You really think soccer happy Europe is going to clammer to sub?
Why not, just as Soccer is slowly becoming more popular here, why cannot American Football do the same over there?

Don't put your house up for collateral when you bet the farm.
Why are you making this about me, I did not make up this story, I posted the link to it, this morning there are more stories.

Here is one from Sports Illustrated, where Netflix confirms they have a interest, which I posted yesterday that was true, but speaking to my friend, who has been my source for most of the stuff I post here and have not been incorrect yet.

As far as do not put your house up for collateral, I hold a lot of Netflix shares, one of the best decisions I have made purchasing them.

Netflix is already one of the least watched apps in my house. If the push for sports content raises prices too much, it is gone as a monthly subscription. Especially as they don't offer discounted annual plans or very many gift card deals. We'd just get it for a month hear or there when there is enough we want to watch to justify it, like we do for things like Starz or Britbox.

That is only $15 per household, actually $2 less than HBO, but with 20 times the new content.

And again, you complain about streaming prices, yet never about the extremely higher prices you pay with DirecTV.

If you finally make the decision to switch to YTTV, that monthly bill along with all the streaming services you subscribe to, would be still less than the monthly DirecTV bill you pay.

You are correct ...
I have no desire to have HBO
That is correct.

$30 for 1 service is still a lot.

But that is for 2 Households, $15 each, for one household, 4K tier is $25, HD is $18.

But considering how much new content you receive, Netflix has more new scripted content on every month than all the Broadcast Networks combined.

4k tier is up to $25 now ????
I guess my bill is More than that then ... ugh

I do enjoy what I do watch on it, she's the one that really uses it the most.

Actually American football is quite popular in Europe, especially in Germany.

World is a lot bigger than just Europe, that is why I believe this Netflix story has legs, since they reach almost everywhere, which is what the NFL has been wanting for a long time.
