Hi, I'm a current E* subscriber, running a 6000 in one room, and a 4900 in another. I'm on the East Coast, and have a 2 dish setup, one 500 (for 119/110), and one 18" (300?) for 61.5; these have somewhat older (legacy?) LNB's. Each is connected to two SW21 switches, allowing all 3 satellites to be viewed by each receiver. I did this installation of all of this equipment myself, and if you want to date it, it was after the launch of the 6000, but prior to the availability of the 8VSB OTA module.

I have a 942 on the way, and need to upgrade. I want to place the 942 in one room, keep the 6000 in another, and dump the 4900. So, I will need to see all three birds from three satellite lines, two on the 942 and one on the 6000.

Do I need to upgrade everything to DishPro, and if so, which LNB's and switch(s) should I use for the most economical (but fully functioning for the 942) setup? I assume I will need the DishPro adapter for the 6000 as well.

Thank you for any help you can give. I understand that the 942 is tricky unless the LNB/switch setup is spot-on.

Easiest thing to do is swap the legacy twin on the 500 for 2 legacy dual lnbf's and replace the legacy 21 switches for a legacy 64 switch that is self powered. This will allow you to run the 942, as well as the 6000 and the 4900 ( put it in the garage ) easily. This will be a cheaper alternative to replacing everything at the dish's and going with all dishpro and a dishpro adapater for the 6000.

Van, this is a good suggestion as it allows all 3 receivers to be hooked up. Don't forget that the 942 will require the 2nd run of RG6, also a legacy Quad could also be used in place of the Twin.

AlphaDisco, if you intend to have only 2 receivers hooked up, converting to DishPro Plus is a viable option, certainly easier and possibly cheaper.

Replace your Twin with a DPP Twin, replace the Dual with a DP Single (or DP Dual). No external switch needed as you will be running the Single to the DPP Twin's input. No extra run of RG6 to the 942 is needed because you will be using the supplied DP Separator. No DP adapter needed for the 6000.

Compare the price of 2 duals (or Quad) + SW64 vs DPP Twin + DP Single (or DP Dual).

Thanks, order placed

Thanks for all of the replies. I decided to go with the DishPro option suggested by BobaBird (DPP Twin + DP Dual).

Regards,

Jeff

converting to all dishpro would require at its easiest a dpp twin, a dp dual, and a dp adapter, Im not sure what the price is on a dpp twin.

The cost comparison (using DishStore pricing for all items):

DP+ Twin: $45
DP Dual: $37
===========
Total: $82

vs.

Legacy Dual: $45
Legacy Dual: $45
SW64: $118
==============
Total: $208

Besides the price, I like the simplicity of upgrading to the DP+ setup. I didn't understand how the new hardware worked, but I get it now. Again, thanks to everyone for responding.
