I'm in Vancouver - Postal Code V7C 4J3.
I'm looking for my true south satellite, and also which direction to point. Not sure where my true south actually is . . .

Thanks
Derek

G10R @ 123ºw is your true south satellite (Lucky you!)

Magnetic variation

SUBTRACT about 18 degrees to get the magnetic compass bearing from the geograpgic bearing.

11780 is a strong TP. 11720 is weak.

Currently, I have the rotor set at 49 degrees latitude, and dish bracket elevation at 22.5 degrees. Is this correct? For the G10R, where does the 33.6 Elevation and -0.1 skew on the chart come into play, if at all?

Thanks
Derek

The above angles are for a fixed dish, what motor do you have?

Sorry about that. I thought I had my signature turned on . . . .

My equipment consists of:
Winegard 76cm Dish
SG2100 Rotor
Invacom QPH-031 Quad LNBF
CaptiveWorks CW-600S Premium

I think you mean 11800 is strong :)

If its the SG2100 motor it should be set at 41º elevation (Other side will be at 49º same as your Lat.)

Dish (on motor) elevation is 23º

The dish elevation may need to be changed slightly but if the mast/pole is exactly plumb and level the motor elevation should never need adjusted.

Its a good idea to find/store your true south satellite WITHOUT the motor to start with! (Use the angles from post#2)

Managed to get G10R with 57% signal quality with the CaptiveWorks 600S. Is that good? It scanned 35 TV channels, and I verified them with the Lyngsat listing for G10R. I've got the 16 channels from TP 11720, 1 from TP 11733, 16 from TP 11800, and 1 each from 12035 and 12078. Does that look about right or should I try aligning my dish some more? The Lyngsat listing looks like it has a lot more free channels than just 35.

Sounds about right, remember you do not get the channels with a 4 digit frequency as they are C-Band signals!

Well done!

only ones you are missing are the following

freq, pol, symbol
12104 V 2222 (ABC Casper)
12114 V 4444 (UPN)

That's strange. I'm trying to tune into one of the channels on G10 this morning (to watch the Germany/Argentina game) and all the channels were either blank or dubplicated the ABC channel - ie, no game :( Normally, every spanish channel would be carrying that game.

Everything was still working last night, so I'm guessing it isn't something that I did wrong. Can anyone confirm if they're seeing what I'm seeing?

Thanks
Derek

Yes, I've rescanned G10, but still the same thing. Very strange. Are the channels on G10 working for you?

The game was on...

At about 8 AM this morning (Pacific Daylight Time,) the game was on G10.

My stepfatherwas watching it.

ARGH! Guess something wrong with my setup. Maybe the CW600 needs a master reset or something. I'll work on it when I get home tonight.

Our streets are true north-south here. Our magnetic deviation here is -21 degrees. I first set up my BUD by making a line with a 2x4 parallel to the curb in the lane.
