I have a h23 hd rec and I am trying to just get sat 101 sd with it.

Today I set up the receiver and my portable 18'' single lnb sat and could not find the set up screen with the beeps to find the sat. Did they get away from that?

I changed the sat set up to 18'' round and swm. They couldn't figure out the rest.

Please help!

thanks

THey use to be in the Set Up section, but for some reason, I don't think the beeps work anymore, it's been a very long time since I remember them working.

Hopefully someone can tell me that I'm missing something when going to the Beeps, but I don't think so.

DirecTV in its wisdom removed the beeps from the signal strength screen.
You'll just have to use that for your alignment. Or get a meter.

I bought a meter on ebay and waiting for it to show up. I was going to try to mess with it before it came in the mail with the beeps.

I thought I was going crazy trying to find the beeps!!

thanks

Just a basic $10 buck one, since I am only trying to get 101 sat. I hope it works well.

You'll probably be just as well off using the recvr signal meter.

Problem with the one you got and a lot of others is it gives you a "found" signal on ANY sat, not just the ones you need for D*.

NOT at all true,

You use your receiver to power the meter.

These are the steps for this type of satellite finder.

http://www.prosatellitesupply.com/meter_eagle_aspen.htm
  • Step 1 Mount the Dish with the proper elevation setting and Level it.
  • Step 2 Run a Wire from receiver to the Dish
  • Step 3 Plug that wire into the "REC" side of your Meter
  • Step 4 Run a 3 foot Jumper wire from LNB to "LNB" Side of the meter.
  • Step 5 Power up your Receiver. With a TV hooked up so you can see the settings screen.
  • Step 6 Go to Setup, and select Satellite Option.
  • Step 7 Select View Signal strength, and Select the 101 Satellite. This Forces the meter to only see the 101.
  • Step 8 Click on Signal Meter and choose TP 1 or 2
  • Step 9 go back to the satellite, Turn your meter about up untill it screams, then turn down Just enough to get it to stop Ajust the dish untill the Db level maxes out again on your meter then Turn the level down, keep on a justing untill you can't turn the level down any further.
  • Step 10 Check the signal strength on your receiver. If your in the Mid to high 80's ,Tighten dish down. And disconnect the signal meter. Your signal strength should go up about 10 points once the meter is disconnected from the system.
Really simple , People have been using these Cheap Signal meters long before $100 Birdog meters came out.

Where are you finding "Satellite Option" and select 101.

It's the very simple $ 10 meter.

I have used it many years ago with very little success.

Were probably talking about different meters ..,.

JIMBO learn to read.

I have used these with nothing but success , Even on a slimline

I found the sat today, just in time before this weekends game at my home. The meter worked great. I had all the setings right, just needed the little bit of extra help from the meter screaming.

It had to download new software first then worked great, espn and even locals off sat 101.

thanks for all the help in seting up my tailgate.

Go Gators!

Now practice a few times, so you have it down pat and you won't need a meter.

Yea OK ,

Cause a meter takes all of about 5 minutes to use, and only requires you to remove 2 LNB screws.

Guess you don't travel with your D* equipment.;)

The Meter will get a signal, Long before the Built in D* receiver signal meter will.
Maybe if your camping or tailgating in a 600 Acre field everytime.

Actually I use my camping set up QUITE REGULARLY .....
I haven't used a meter for this stuff in many many years.

This is NOT "Rocket Science".

It takes about 15 minutes from the time I get the tripod out of the bins to be set up and watching TV.

Fwiw, I'm using a HR20 and a Slimline 5.
