Need help with a multiswitch task

I have a guy who just bought an extended stay hotel. He wants (And is adamant) a 301 pre-paid receiver in every room for monthly tenants to subscribe and pay for their own programming. He is next to Walmart, so moneypaks should be no problem. Here is what I need:

What Dish/LNB/multiswitch combo should I use to connect all 62 rooms with a 301 receiver? He has already ordered the receivers so I am pressed for the best solution possible.

To do this correctly (legally) you will need to contact Dish Network for Business at the following link:

They will help you with your Hotel MDU solutions. Otherwise you will run into roadblocks with what you are proposing, and nobody here will assist you in any fraudulent installs to Dish.

Sounds like he REALLY jumped the gun. The last hotel I was at the used Dish for their rooms (separate install for the Manager's room ) had one dish and about 8 receivers going to some MDU-type modulation for all their rooms. If he already has all those receivers coming and he didn't contact Dish's Commercial department... he's not going to be happy.

So he says

He told me just now that he did contact them. He stated to them that he wanted no part of TV service and that because it is an extended stay facility, the tenant was responsible for their own service. The commercial dept then told him that since he was not interested in MDU (Which I happen to know a good bit about) he would have to leave it up to his tenants to order their own service. He then states to the rep that the local installer told him it would be better to order pre-pay receivers and place one in every room for the tenents to activate at their own leisure. The rep then told him that she didn't think there would be issues as long as he didn't handle any money for the transactions or make any money from the transactions. She referred him to his local dealer who said he could come out and install a dish for every 12 receivers. 6 dishes on the roof would look cool, huh ?

I will call Dish Monday to see what can be done for him and to be sure he is not illegal. If he were installing FTG or the like, I could help him with no problem. This scenario is just a bit weird for me. I DO like his reasoning though. (Mostly because I have seen his tenants) LOL.

if you have direct lines to each room no spliters bariles then a switch from sanora and a mess load of 34 switches will work.. just make sure to each switch has its own split off of the sanora switch.. if you link the 34 through the pass throught ports and the first switch has no recevers powring it every other switch on the line will have no signal..

Why not use 3 dishes with DP quads and use 16 SW34's (6 on each dish)?

If you can convince the owner to get only 119, you can use one simple dual lnb legacy dish and a bunch cheap 3x* multiswitches.

If he's using 301's, the same can be done for 119 only with a DishPro single or dual lnb and high performance regular cable splitters.

My Best suggestion is two 24" Dishes (Winegard 24" Antenna without a DishPro Dual LNB), and DP Duals on them (one for 110, one for 119) Run two cables from each dish to 4 Sonora Auto Gain Amplifiers (Pal10-T Auto Gain Amplifier). From the Amps, go to 4 separate 8 Way 900 - 2150 MHz Splitters (Sonora HRS8 DBS Satellite 3 Sigma 8 Way Splitter (HRS8) | HRS8 [Sonora] | Sonora HRS8 DBS Satellite 3 Sigma 8 Way Splitter (HRS8)). This will give you 16 119 lines and 16 110 lines. Run to 16 separate non-trunked DP34 switches. This will allow the system to operate even if every receiver is disconnected, and the DP34 switches aren't powered. The Amps will help offset the signal loss from the splitter, and from what I'm assuming is a fairly long cable run to each room. The links I posted are just examples of what I think will work, and I have never done a job like this, but it should work in theory. Each receiver should show a 34 switch with a 119 Feed and 110 Feed (The Splitters/Amps will block the DiSEqC between the 34 switches and the LNBsso they will not be identified as duals, just "FEED") Everyone else, please let me know if you think this will work.

quite frankly if the guy is as cheap as he sounds, I can't imagine you are going to make anywhere near enough profit on this to merit the work you are going to have to do... especially if the units are not wired already or are wired with RG59.

Throw in the possible legal/ethics issues involved and you may be better just walking away.

Sounds to me like the local dealer figured this out and gave him the 6 dish solution to get the hotel to blow him off instead.

I called Dish myself to check into the legality and engineering aspect. The SUPER nice lady in the comm dept said that he could save money with a headend, but could do it this way without any legal problems. With regards to the engineering aspect, it looks like Dish agrees with Rocket. They recommend 2 dishes, a 3x6 hub, and several multiswitches. As one of you pointed out, he probably isn't going to spring for the tab, but at least I gave him a great answer! Thanks to everyone for their input. I really should have known that this would look similar to a headend, but the distance between the receivers freaked me out. I am ok now..... LOL
