I have been reading this site, and have found a lot of very good information, however i am not very tech savy. My question is, i am having HD satellite installed in a few weeks. TV1 has a plasma HD tv. TV2 is an older projection HD ready tv without the built in tuner. What i am trying to do is be able to watch live OTA HD broadcasts on TV2 with an indoor antenna. I am only 13 miles from the nearest tower. Is it possible to watch/record 2 HD shows at once on TV1 and either watch the OTA HD on TV2 at the same time or record a 3rd show on the OTA?

I am not sure how this all works. Does the indoor antenna plug directly into the 722? do you need to run any additional cable to TV2 or does it pass through when in "single mode" to tv2? Thanks!

You'll only get one HD output from the 722. So your TV1 will be viewed in HD. TV2 will not be. TV2 will still be able to get all the HD signals (assuming you leave the 722 in single mode) but it won't be in HD. The 722's output for TV2 does not come via component or HDMI cables

In general though, you'd be able to record 2 things via the satellite and watch an OTA channel. Or you could record three things, as long as one of the shows was via the OTA station. The antenna plugs directly into the 722. It will "pass through" to TV2 when in single mode.

Your other option might be to have the antenna split and go to your TV2 before it goes to the 722. This assumes your older projection TV can receive digital signals directly. At least then you'll be able to get some HD to that television.

Thanks for the info! Let me see if i have this straight in my head now, if i am in "single mode" i can record 2 HD shows at the same time from my TV1 location, and watch tv or record from a 3rd source the OTA antenna.

The TV downstairs is HD ready, just no built in tuner, so i am assuming the VIP722 would be the tuner for that tv. Is there any easy way to get HD to the TV2? Will the installers run the antenna to the TV2 location so that i would be able to watch the OTA at that location with live HD locals?

Tv2 the old HD ready needs it's own HD receiver probably a 211. The 722 can only output a HD signal from TV1. The TV2 output is STANDARD DEFINITION ONLY.:):):)

You should really get an HD receiver for your basement set-up. With current new customer installations, it should not cost you any extra up front, but would cost about $13 per month with DVR and Lease fees. You should call Claude at www.Dishtore.com for the best prices and options. You would have to call dish and cancel the install, then Claude would set it back up.

The vip recievers video signal is active to both HDMI and Component outputs at the same time, so you could connect both TV's.

Yes, it is possable to do what you ask in HD with the vip722 in single mode, but only if one TV has an HDMI input and the other TV a component input, and you are able to run long A/V cables directly to TV2 from the vip722.

My 722 will view the HD channels, in SD format. on #2 in DUAL MODE. Don't believe that you need to select SINGLE....:)
