Hi guys,

I had a bud years ago before digital and moved to directtv when that came out. Recently I was given a Nfusion HD FtA receiver which peaked my interest in FTA. I purchased a 6' fortec star dish to go on the satellite pole in my yard left over from the old bud. I also ordered a gbox v3000, a polar mount, 24" linear actuator, and a bsc621 lnbf.

Now I assembled the dish and mounted it to the pole. I assembled the polar mount in the stationary position and I have not unboxed the gbox 3000 or the actuator yet. I wanted to get a signal first.

I checked and the pole is plumb on all sides. I checked and the polar mount is mounted plumb to the pole and tightened facing my true south satellite which is 79w amc5.

Now I live in Miami florida 33189 zipcode I checked geosatfinder.

I positioned the dish facing 181 degrees with a compass and used a protractor to set the elevation on the dish to about 60 degrees. I have my reveiver set for amc5 and I set the lnb with 22khz on and lo of 107600. I have the bsc621 not the universal one.

My problem is my receiver shows a signal meter of 45. Thats as high as I can get it and I have tried for days. My dish has no markings for elevation or azim. And the bsc621 has no markings for focal depth.

Does anyone have the fortec star 180cm dish with the bsc621, I am deperate for a sanity check or some pictures or something? I am at a complete loss at this point.

thanks for all your help!!!!

I would start with C Band first. L.O. 5150 22KHz OFF

22khz on and lo of 107600. I have the bsc621 not the universal one.

Standard L.O. is 10750 not 10600. :)

What is the f/d for the Dish, should be in the manual.

I have the same setup (well the -2 LNB which is UNiversal) and for most of the channels at least here in Minnesota the LNB is about an inch from the scaler rings towards the dish...but mine is a fixed dish so I tinker with it al the time :)

I'll post pics toight....if the camera doesnt freeze.....dang its cold out (-8 this morning)

thanks

Sorry for the typo I meant 10750 as the lo. I have tried quite a few sats and still nothing. I figured my true south sat would be easiest since I would not have to touch the skew on the lnb. The dish has quite a few holes on the edge to mount the supports for the scalar ring, does it matter which 3 you use? I measured the distance from each side to the scalar ring and it looks the same from all directions.

i will try to point the dish tomorrow to 99w. I work in IT so I am pulling an all nighter. Maybe I will have some energy left in the morning to try.

I am still curious if anyone has the bsc621 lnb and the fortec star 180cm dish, If they would measure and let me know how far past the scalar ring the lnbf sits.

The dish has a f/d ratio of .38, and the lnbf has some weird scale 2 4 6 0 2 4 or something like that.

bufo333, I don't have a Fortec, but on my 10', the 621 is scewed where the 0 on the lnb scale is dead on 6:00 (when the dish is pointed due south)
Others are putting it around 5:30, but it's still in that vicinity.
The f/d on my 10' mesh is .36 and the feedhorn is about 5/8" out from the scaler rings... looking at the corotor here, it looks like .38 f/d should be about 7/16" from the rings.

Thanks I have my lnbf about 1/2 inch through the scalar ring, which should put me in the general area, then.

Do you guys think its possible i have a bad lnb?
\

i will try c band on the satellite suggested earlier and get back to you all.

Well I hate to say this but I am giving up on this one. I have tried everything and I can't get a signal from the dish. I tried using the analogue sat finder and I start with the gain all the way up and continue to turn it down litle by little and can only turn it down once or twice. It never even gets close to the half way mark.

I am calling this a dead project. something is serously wrong but damned if I know.

You're not getting off that easy....

Make sure you have the Meter BEHIND the Dish.
Make sure you have the proper setup in the Receiver.

I have a 6 foot dish and tried a bcs621. I never got the Ku to work. Do what others say hook a cable to the reciever port of the LNB and aim for a c-band sat. I am a hundred miles north of you with a HH180 motor on my six footer and I get amazingly good C-band reception with it. To solve the ku problem a 4 foot fortec with a QPH031 lnb and a HH120 motor Both dishes have dual output LNB's a coolsat 5000 drives the Ku and a DSR922 drives the C-band. A coolsat 8000 and a diamond 9000 hooked to a zinwell 4x4 switch and you will never be without something to watch!

update

Well After spending all weekend working on this I have an update. I have spent probably 80 hours standing on a ladder adjusting the fortec star 180cm dish and still it does not work. After the second day the cheap plastic satellite finder that came with my kit broke. I decided this morning that I had to start eliminating variables if I was ever going to get anything done. I went to the local flea market, they have a big fta satellite dealer, that sells all kinds of used 22-33 inch dishes and new and used lnb. he also sells just about every brand of fta receiver, although curiously enough every receiver plugged in is actually stealing dish network. Anyways I decided to by a used bright-start 33" dish and a chaparral Universal KuLNBF, plus a tripod and 50 feet of quad shielded rg6. I figured this would elimate the entire 6ft dish, lnb, and cable. I brought the dish home and assembled in about 5 minutes, I also picked up a new satellite finder because the other one broke. this one was purchased from radio shack and is aluminium and a little better made.

I decided to set the dish up on the tripod and point to 97 west ia5 satellite. I used the new tuner which is much better and more sensitive and was able to tone in the satellite in a matter of minutes I had the sensitivity turned nearly to zero and still a solid tone. I went in the house turned on the nfusion hd receiver and went to satellite setup selected 97west ia5 satellite and universal lnb 9750 to 10600 settings.

Nothing, not a thing 20-30 quality when i scanned for channels I received nothing.

So not giving up I grabbed the meeter and tuned to 82w 119w 129w. I figued if i could get the welcome to dish channel or anything on those satellites I would be ok. Nothing, nada, zilch.

It seems to me that this receiver is dead. The only satellite I did get something on was 119w, I was able to get the dish 500 channel, but was unable to get any video or audio.

So I performed 1 final test to see if the problem was me not knowing how to tune in a satellite or the receiver. I went to 101w and used an old circular lnb off an old dtv dish. I tuned it with the satellite finder in about 5 minutes and plugged in my directtv receiver and instantly channels.

So I think I will contact the seller and ask for my money back as this receiver is defective.

What do you all think?

The DMS International site has a bulletin about over tightening the connector cable on the BSC-621's and turning the Ku lnbf inside the housing and how to check it and fix it if it is turned. Mine's turned but can wait till spring now before I'll venture out to look at it, then I'll knock down my old tired 10 ft bud and up with the 6ft. Andrews commercial Ku solid dish off of the fixed mount to the motorized mount may work just as good with no more analog signals in FEB.

Good luck with your set up. It is almost exactly what I have but not put up yet.

The only difference is that I have a BSC621-2, a coolsat 6000 and 8000, but I do have the GBox.

If I can't get that to work I will go with a KU LNB.

I already have a ten foot bud with a 4dtv 922 receiver so I don't need too much C band.
