Need help about dish boxes and HD?

Hi

I got my wife a new HD TV for her studio in the lower level for Christmas.
She has her own Dish Box and it has been hooked up to an old style CRT TV for years.

I've got it hooked up and working but there are no HD channels.

I have a 2 channel Dish VP 722K upstairs but even if I ran a cable to the lower level it doesn't output HD on Channel 2.
Which brings up the question, why have a separate channel that you don't want to hook up to any kind of modern TV anyway?
It seems like a total waste of effort.

I'm paying over a hundred bucks a month, I want HD on both TVs. LOL

So what do I have to do to get HD TV downstairs?

If I need a new Dish box what model number do I need?

I don't need to record or anything just get the signal to the TV.

It sounds like her model STB is an SD only model. What is the model number?

You need a Hopper system. Specifically, you need, from what you've posted, one Hopper and one Joey.

The cheapest is to probably see if Dish will upgrade her old box for an HD one like the 211k for a minimal (or perhaps no) charge (which can be made into a DVR by adding an external hard drive).

The Hopper/Joey system is another alternative (with 2 year agreement).

I second the Hopper/Joey. You will 1 dvr which the Joey links to. Any thing recorded on the internal hd is accessible by both units. Monthly costs would be $17. $10 for the Hopper and $7 for the Joey. If you have an antenna for locals, a ota module is available for $30. If you travel and have a laptop or any other mobile device, you can get a sling adapter and you will be able to view the contents/programing on the Hopper.

I'm afraid the only thing that hopper and joey mean to me is related to kangaroos!
Please explain what you'er talking about. LOL

As I said I only need to get a HD signal to the TV, I can record and do everything else upstairs.
She has the TV on while she works in her pottery studio so she kind of watches while she works, but she doesn't actually sit in front of it all the time.

The TV is a 24" that sits on her table right next to where she works.
She has made and sold ceramic jewelry for many years.

Imo, if its just a 24" tv and she doesn't really watch it much, I'd leave it sd to save money. But if you must have hd go for a 211 prlly the cheapest route.

If she's looking at the 24" at close range, I think she would see the difference between SD and HD. Besides. "Saving money" and "wife" don't really go together.

You can pick up a 19" hdtv relatively cheap. I have one in my computer room hooked up to a Hopper. It's about 4-5 feet from my chair. Works perfectly.

Get an HDMI splitter and split the signal from the 722 or get a HD receiver. You should be able to find a 211 receiver for around $100. Dish might even give you a new 211 for free.
