Give me a hand with my setup. I have the dish mounted on the roof which is:

~ Satcontrol SM3D12 Motor

~ 31" FS80P Dish

~ Universal 0.4dB Single KU LNBF

I also have a ~ TwinHan TH1022A but I could never get it set up properly with it.

So I bought a Coolscan 4000 pro STB to get the initial install over with.

Seeing as my zip is 22801, I found my Latitude to be 38.448864 N and my Longitude to be 78.871438 W.

I am guessing that my southern satellite should be AMC 5 at 79 degrees west. Or do I take into fact my Declination is 9 degrees 16' west and say my southern satellite is actually AMC 3 at 87 degrees west. I am about to head back up to the roof and try and make sure everything is plum and use my compass to find true south.. which I am getting as ???.

Ok seeing as I have a GOTO X receiver and motor that uses it (guessing its the same as USALS) Do I only need to set it for my true south which I should see as being my azimuth plus magnetic declination? I am probally makeing this way harder than it is.

Any pointers?

Got a nice comfy couch for ya Iceberg If you want to set up a dish.. lmao

True south is AMC5…its always what satellite is closest to the longitude

Once you get your true south aimed in, use the USALS and the receiver does the rest

Big man don’t fly :D

Sounds like Im on the right track, Now not to be confusing, but do I set the dish up on my true south sans satellite or do I make amc 5 my true south setting. What I mean is if I set it up for amc 5 it should track the arc with USALS correct ?

Yes use AMC-5 as its exactly at your true south! I would use USALS : )

okie doke got my dish set straight up on 189 on the compass for Azimuth. amc 5 as my satellite. Now to even get a quality on amc 5 I have to find an active transponder? I tried the blind scan and doesnt seem to pick up anything. think Im going back to read your review on the coolscan Ice. If you guys can think of anything else please post.

for a signal, try 11742 V 11110

In the review, I showed how to add one....go to manual scan, and see if above is in there. Othewise, hit the "add TP" button and add it

Woot! Ok all done Im on the arc with some decent quality. Thanks for the tips, they really helped out, now Im off to lyngsat to find some stuff to watch.

Thanks again guys and have a good day.

turned out I had the direction right, so I just loosened the screw to the dish and wiggled it.. seems I was aimed to high. Dropped it down a few degrees and wham Green Bars O Plenty!! (should trademark that)

Guess I was just lucky.. I have scanned sats on both sides of my true south and am getting hits (alot of encrypted..bah) on most of them so far.. This blind search Is Awsome!

yet another happy ending :D once again i want to thank all the members who have helped not only myself, but MANY MANY other people. Thank you all :D

sweet that you got it working right away

You are one of the lucky ones. You have a TRUE true south (I have one too, IA6)

congrats on getting it working!

(as for the scrambled stuff, read in the review how to nuke them in one shot) :D
