Need a dish for locals on 129

Was your installation originally installed with a wing dish? My install was for 110 119 and 129 but when I upgraded to HD they brought a wing dish for 61.5. For me to go back to 129, I can just disconnect the coax from the wing dish and reconnect the 129 LNB from the initial install. Don't know if it is that simple for you but just though I'd throw it out there as an idea.

BTW, I'm in the same boat as you, as Indy stations will be on 129. I do think I will be able to move one to another part of the house.

I'm just the opposite. My setup is pointed toward 110, 119 & 129. I have been receiving SD locals since they became available. Now my HD locals are available but are on 77. I just upgraded to HD in August, so I will be calling Dish in the spring to try & work something out.

If you were using a DDP Twin on a Dish 500 with a connection to your wing dish, you need to 'unlock' that DPP Twin.

Disconnect ALL receivers so that the LNBs are no longer getting current from them.

Run the check switch while disconnected.
It will not see anything and go into a 1 of 38 sweep and come back with 'No Switch detected'. (This is called 'Clearing the Matrix')

Now hook up the 129 ONLY and peak.

Reconnect all and run check switch again.

All will be well.

Yes, it was originally set up with a wing dish.

I seem to remember the installer saying that due to a weak signal from 129, in combination with some LoS concerns, that is why he was giving me the 61.5 wing dish. He said I could put dishes at multiple locations to possibly be able to get 129, but that the free installation didn't cover that type of install. Back then, it wasn't really a concern, since there was nothing on 129 that I couldn't also get on 61.5. But now with my locals going on 129, I'd kinda like to be able to get them if/when they light them up.

Huh? :D

I currently have a Dish 500 pointing at 110/119, and a Dish 300 pointing at 61.5. I tried to reposition the 61.5 wing to 129 by going into menu-6-1-1 and looking at the 129 signal strength. I was unable to find the 129 satellite.

Are you saying I have to "clear the matrix" before that dish will register a signal from 129?

What transponder where you on while searching for 129? Due to the spotbeams not all TPs are available in your area.

Leave the point dish screen on 61.5 with the working signal strength. Put it on transponder 22. 22 is active on 61.5 and active on 129 with the same signal parameters(modulation). Then swing your dish over and wait for the wrong satellite message. Lock in the signal as high as you can, then do a check switch so it sets everything up.

I set the transponder to 25, since that is what the Youngstown, OH HD locals were uplinked on.

So if I'm understanding correctly, you're saying to go to the point dish screen at 61.5 on TP 22, leave it at 61.5 on TP 22, and try to aim the satellite at 129 with the "Wrong satellite" message, using that signal strength meter to determine if I got it?

Forgive me if I seem a bit slow at all of this... ;)

Yep.

If I remember correctly all locals on 129 have been spotbeamed. Spotbeams are 1-16. I think 25 is national stuff now. Stick with the TP 22 since it is active on 61.5 and 129 as 8PSK modulation. Just swing over until you lock on to the wrong satellite on the screen which is 129...which will turn out to be your correct satellite once you are said and done.

OK. Thanks. Maybe I'll give that a try tonight.

Just out of curiosity, why would they uplink the local channels to TP 25 if it is national stuff? Will they move them before they light them up?

Yep......but more importantly than that, you need to disconnect the receivers so that the DPP Twin is no longer receiving any current from them to allow it to 'rest' and reset.

Believe me....I learned the HARD way.

The DPP Twin expects to see 61.5 and, BY GOD, that's what its looking for (and no other) until you 'reset' your current configuration by disconnecting all leads going to the LNBs and then running a check switch (with NO LNB connected) to clear the matrix.

Now that everything is back to a 'Virgin' state, point the wing dish ONLY!

It will lock onto 129 in a NY second.

Then attach the wing dish back to the "In" port on the DPP Twin and run your check switch.

I repeat...all will be well.
