NCIS Hawaii is just another Hawaii Five-O in sheep's clothing.

CBS must get some kind of deal for filming in Hawaii. Why else can they keep on pumping out these shows. IF you were to believe the way those shows portray it that state is the most violent state in the country.

If you remember JAG, which is in the same "fictional universe" as NCIS, the last few episodes were setting up the protagonists to get promoted and become guest stars, introducing new characters, played by lower paid actors. CBS passed and cancelled the show.

However, JAG generally hovered in mid 20th place and never was higher than 15th, and was doing its second year in the "Friday Night Death Slot", ranking in at 59th place. NCIS has been no lower than 3rd place, often 1st, for over a decade and a half, and shows no sign of losing viewers, even though the consensus is that the show has lost its edge. I think CBS would try to keep the show alive, even if Harmon quit.

How to work Gibbs in to some but not all episodes will be a challenge. How a disgraced former officer needs to show up four or five times a year to help out is a stretch, even in the total suspension of reality world of NCIS.

Unless they determine his suspension is over ...

I think we have seen the price Harmon is extracting for continuing the show.

- Do an arc with him as an extreme dog lover, as a statement on his split with Pauley Perrette.

- Work his real life wife, a fine, but long forgotten actress, into an arc.

I think next season's basic plan is fairly obvious.

"The team", now run by McGee, has a "murder of the week". These will be interposed with cuts to unrelated material of Gibbs working, first on the Pam Dawber arc; and, if he will, later arcs with him as some sort of unofficial player in whatever secret agent stuff Bishop, David, and maybe Fornell and other past characters, are involved in. All the time with CBS watching the increasingly Harmon free show's ratings. If they can pull down a top 15 or so, they will be fine.

The comeback story surprised me in quickly wrapping up the Dawber arc. It remains to be shown how they work around Gibbs’ absence. This one looked like they just took a script and wrote in “McGee” before every Gibbs line.

Watched NCIS:Hawaii today and frankly not impressed. I despise shows that feel it necessary to have an annoying antagonist for no reason and this one has not one but two, one male and one female. The completely out of context lesbian kiss wasn't necessary either. They had to make the lead a single mom so they could fill dead airspace with annoying children. Nope, sorry, the bad outweighs the good IMHO.

I thought the show was good and an interesting way to conclude the Season 18 cliff hanger .... however, Gibbs must be one of the fastest healers ever.

Btw, they still haven't resolved the killer, so Pam Dauber may still be in it.

NCIS churned out a very classy farewell to Gibbs last night. It covered all the current bases, especially with Ducky. Very Nicely done. Perhaps one of the best character exits ever!

He signed a one year contract to appear in about 1/2 of this year's shows. He has been the executive producer of most of the NCIS series - working overtime for 19 years now. I can see where he might want to back off, he probably does not need the money.
Looks like they are using Gary Cole to fill in the gaps since he was fired by the FBI for not arresting Gibbs and not testifying.
