NCAA to Weigh Expanding Basketball Tourney

Motivated in part by George Mason's remarkable Final Four run last season, coaches will urge the NCAA to expand its most lucrative championship event during the men's and women's basketball committee meetings in Orlando, Fla., this week.

"They'd love to see the tournament double to 128," said Jim Haney, executive director of the National Association of Basketball Coaches.

Why not 256? Or even 512 and get most of the country involved? It's only 2 more games! Hell, add a third and make it 1024! Make the tournament 1 week longer!

Its all about money, the more games the more money they bring in!

I would be for changing it as well.

Back to 32 teams. Too many teams in it already, with all the conferences that are in by winning thier conference.

I feel these conferences deserve a chance as well, but what are there about 30 different conferences.

There is also no need for 8 teams from one conference to get in (Big Ten) for one example.
Most of the mid majors only get one team in when thier 2nd team can probably beat the lower end of the conferences that get a bunch in.

It happens with football too, just not quite to that extreme.

Of course we could eventually have 40-50 Bowl games as well.
Theres what 112 division 1 football teams, if we get up to 56 bowls, then EVERYONE gets a bowl game...... Bad idea.

Bowl games use to be for teams that had very good years, lately it's anyone over 500.....thats sad

Bowl games are far more out of control than march madness. March madness is only a handful of teams too heavy, bowl games have the most absurd teams...

128 is just a terrible idea. 65 is a terrible idea, but it is just about more $$ that the athletes sweat and risk their careers for and get no money from...
