So why was Dish the red-headed stepchild as far as the opening ceremonies in 4k? Was it another case of Cheap Charlie?
mine showed 4k , but did not beat old voom HD
That's what I would try as an experiment. Also see if the PIP-MultiView comes in 4K.I will also try going straight to the TV (HDMI 5) in case there is an issue with AVR.
Scott,
Thanks for the quick reply confirming 4k output. I have a 2016 Denon S910w AVR that supports HDCP 2.2, I purchased new HDMI cables that are High speed 2.2 capable. My TV is a 2016 Vizio that is HDCP 2.2 compliant (on HDMI 1, 2 & 5 inputs, I am using HDMI 1). Vizio recommends HDMI for 1080P and higher signals (it goes to 60Hz), others only to 30Hz). Do you know what Hz the Hopper outputs? 30 or 60? I will also try going straight to the TV (HDMI 5) in case there is an issue with AVR.
I'd also like to point out I have been able to use Dish VOD and play a 4k okay through the AVR and TV. That is why I am scratching my head on CH 146 & 148-01.
Not quite,Dish sends the 480i/p signal down from the satellite, the user selects 1080i/p format on their Dish receiver(Dish receiver's do not have a native pass through setting),then the 1080i signal goes through the HDMI cable to the 4K UHDTV
HDMI input then comes out 4K on the TV screen.
But when you check you System Information screen it says the input is 1080i which it is,the only way to tell it's 4K is by the user's eyesight.
I have an OTA antenna connected to the 4K UHDTV's tuner and my 480i channels are not as good being upscaled compared to the 1080i signal being upscaled. So that's using my eyesight and my opinion on the upscaling to 4K subject.
Results do vary by the user, some cannot see the difference, some can,if I could not see a difference in the picture,I would have returned my 2015 4K UHDTV and got a 2015 1080p HDTV.
When handling that type of lye, you need to be very careful. Often, things totally disappear when exposed to lye's like this.NO! I would rather hear that they lyed!!!
Yup pure 4K resolution.
If you are not getting 4K it could be the HDMI cable which may not support 4K...
Or on some older 4K TV TV's there is only HDMI Port that supports HDCP 2.2. On my old Samsung 8550 this port is the one marked (from memory) MHM?
Also you mention going through a Denon receiver, does it support HDCP 2.2? Try going direct to the TV and see that way.
Same here. I do notice that on hdmi 5 the other channels don't look as good as when it is on hdmi 1. I thinks it's because the upscaling is only on inputs 1 to 4 and none on 5. The 1080i upscaled on the hdmi 1 looks great anyway. The only input on my Vizio that works with the Hopper in 4K is HDMI 5.
I was only seeing 1080i on my vizio until i switched to input 5. now it says 2160 - am i not seeing full 4K? any thoughts why?

That should say 3840 x 2160 for 4K
Now I'm confused. On a vizio when you hit input should it say 2160 or 3840 for 4k?
No VIZIO only displays what the vertical resolution it is receiving is so 2160 is correct for 4k.That should say 3840 x 2160 for 4K
