NBA 2008-09 Season

Beating the best team in the league is one thing....beat them by almost 40 ain't pretending to me....WOW!

Yep. The Magic embarrassed us badly. Dwight Howard exposed our interior weakness and they made just about every 3 they took. That night, the Magic looked like they could beat the 1995-1996 Bulls.

Hopefully the Cavs learned from this loss and will serve as a wake-up call before playoff time.

HD, I think you, me, and anyone on this site could play better defense than the Suns are against Dallas.

This is why they are on the outside of the playoff window looking in.

Defense is like a credit card- don't leave home without it.

HD once mentioned how the Cavs bounce back nicely from tough losses.

After the surprisingly ugly loss on Friday in Orlando, they bounce back with an impressive win over the Spurs.

This surprised me, because I thought the Spurs seemed capable of testing Cleveland's home-court dominance (they have won in Boston, Utah, and Atlanta- those are not easy places to win by any means).

This win against San Antonio settled me down a bit from the previous two bad losses.

These Cavs have only TWO losing streaks this season. Both were only 2 games long. A win against the Spurs not only stopped the bleeding, but it prevented us from regressing further. There's nothing you want less than to go into the playoffs cold.

With the Cavs 13-game win streak in March now a thing of the past, let's hope these Cavs can maintain the right momentum into the playoffs.

PS> Cavs are now 37-1 at home. If we win the last 2 home games, we tie the immortal '85-'86 Celtics for best home record of all time (I know, I've said that a million times, but we are very close now and it's worth mentioning again).

As for Detroit- can I officially say they have no chance of making it back to the East Finals for a seventh straight year?

They aren't looking like a team that can cause trouble in the playoffs- they don't have the up-tempo players that can cause trouble for the better teams ala the Hawks and Warriors

Haven't you already done that about five times through this thread?

I am telling you RIGHT NOW....NOBODY wants to play the Pistons in the 1st round.
They are a very proud bunch of players that will go into the playoffs with a chip on their shoulder with NOTHING to lose because NOBODY outside of Detroit give them a chance past the 1st round.

....the #1 or the #2(they are tied for the 8th/7th spot with the Bulls) seeds have been warned...:yes

I'm confident that the Cavs can take Detroit in a 7 game series, but I agree with everything you said. The Pistons are NOT a typical 8 seed and should not be taken lightly.....not to mention the rivalry between them and the Cavs.

They SHOULD beat the Pistons and just about any other team in the league....they are the best team in the league....BUT.....as sure as the goatee on my face would NOT wanna play that team in the 1st round. Honestly, if they steal just ONE game in the 1st round on the road....that higher seed could be in deep trouble.

I'm not worried about the Pistons. They're old and tired. The torch has been passed in 2007 during the historic Game 5 at the Palace of Auburn Hills during the Eastern Conference Finals.

The "torch was past" is all media created hoopla for the fans to saliva over. This has NOTHING to do with playing the game....

So you think the Pistons have a shot at beating the Cavs?

I think this Cavs have the best team league. They SHOULD win...I have a strange feeling the Cavs will either sweep the Pistons OR the will be bounced by a #8 seed. Then again, they are tied for the 7th/8th seed so they might play the #2 seed.

Either way, anyone who does overlook them as a stepping stone to the next round, MIGHT be in for a rude awakening.

Is Iverson's "bad back" going to keep him out of the playoffs? I know this may be an unpopular opinion here, but Iverson steps up in big games (at least he used to) and I think the Pistons are better off with him playing in the playoffs.

Yup. They said he's done for the season and playoffs.

It's not his back keeping him out though. It's the Piston's way of telling him to STFU and they don't want any more distractions. In essence, the Pistons granted his wish when he spouted off about rather retiring instead of coming off the bench.

That's exactly what that was. There is no doubt in my mind he healthy enough to play, but those kind of remarks will find you a seat on any Detroit team. This is a blue-collar town. we work hard, and don't run our mouths harder than our actions. You are what you do, not what you say you are.

Spurs lose Ginobili for rest of season

Bad news for the Spurs.....

SAN ANTONIO -- The [ame="http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/clubhouse?team=sas"]San Antonio Spurs News, Schedule, Players, Stats, Video - NBA - ESPN[/ame]' Big Three is down to two.

[ame="http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/players/profile?playerId=272"]Manu Ginobili Stats, News, Photos - San Antonio Spurs - ESPN[/ame] will miss the rest of the season and playoffs for the Spurs after tests Monday revealed that his troubled right ankle has gotten worse.

It was the news San Antonio dreaded after Ginobili sat out the fourth quarter in Sunday's blowout loss at Cleveland, and leaves the Spurs limping toward the postseason in search of a fifth NBA title since 1999.

The Spurs said Ginobili wasn't expected to need surgery. But either way, Ginobili is out and the Spurs are hobbling with less than two weeks before the playoffs begin.

[ame="http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/players/profile?playerId=215"]Tim Duncan Stats, News, Photos - San Antonio Spurs - ESPN[/ame] is bothered by sore knees and has been sitting out the second game in back-to-backs down the stretch this season. LBJ Gets Another Player of the Month Award!

Lebron James has been named player of the month for the third time this season. Think about that. For the season, Lebron has taken the player of the month award 3 out of 5 times! Out of all the players in the East! One major reason for this award was that LeBron led the Cavs to a 16-1 record during the month of March.

From the Cavs press release:

During March, James ranked first in triple-doubles (4), free throws made (129) and free throws attempted (170) and tied for first in double-doubles (12). He also ranked second in points per game (28.2) and field goals made (159), third in assists (8.4), tied for fifth in three-pointers made (32), sixth in steals (1.8), seventh in rebounds (8.9) and ranked 13th in blocks (1.3) among Eastern Conference players. He finished with 479 points, 152 rebounds and 143 assists during the month; the only other player in NBA history to reach each of those totals in one month is Oscar Robertson, who did it eight separate months, most recently in January 1965.

Looks Like the Lakers Will be Full Strength Soon...

“After today’s practice went well, Andrew Bynum said he plans to play Sunday against the Memphis Grizzlies and April 14 against the Utah Jazz. Those are the Lakers’ final regular-season games. Bynum has said all along that he hoped to play in a couple of regular-season games before rejoining the active roster for the playoffs.”
