NASCAR 2013 season

Maybe to an extent,it was only a 40% chance of scattered t/storms.As stardust pointed out, there hasn't been a sellout since 2010.Bristol used to be all the rage around here just a few years back. Now it's more like big deal.
I had seats. I stayed home because of the weather forecast. The last forecast I saw on Saturday night was low 50's with a 60% chance of showers. I live about 3.5 to 4 hrs from Bristol. I just did not want to take the chance of driving up there being cold and wet and NOT seeing a race.
I was astonished to see the sun break through the clouds during the race.

The night race used to be one of the toughest tickets in sports. No longer. They messed with the track and people got pissed off because the event lacked action race fans came to expect.
I am also considering the car is not solely to blame. I think the drivers are partly to blame. There is too much in the way pf points racing. This problem could easily be solved. 5 bonus points to the winner( instead of one) 4 to second 3 to third 2 to fourth and one to the 5th place finisher.
Something has got to be done to prevent drivers from 'saving their equipment' for 80% of the event until they decide it's time to race.
Either that or shorten the damned things.

Your point scenario won't work ...
Only top 5 get points ?
IF they want to adjust the points, it needs to be a larger difference in points.
More like 20 points for a Win, 10 for second something where theres a larger impact between the top 5 I would say compared to the rest of the field.

BONUS points.

There ya go, OK take my points I mentioned and give them as bonus points, you won't see people settling for top 10s because of point racing if thats at stake.

WTH, I would give 5 points for the Pole Position too.

I am not a big fan of giving points for qualifying. JMHO
Oh, I think the qualifying format should be changed.
On all of the 2 mile and 1.5 mile tracks the drivers run one lap knowing full well the second one will be slower.
I say require the cars to run BOTH laps and take the average speed of them to determine starting position.

while I agree partially there is bonus points for leading a lap (obviously the winner HAS to lead a lap) and 3 points for most laps led so technically from 1st to 2nd can be 4 points more (47 to 43)

Yeah forecast was not good. My place is only 14 miles by the way of the crow from BMS. I was quite content to watch it on the tube & was surprised it didn't get rained out.

I should have invited you & teehar over for the race, wife is a good hostess. Heck I can be sitting right next to the fridge & ask her in the next room to get me a beer & she will with a smile........lol. I shouldn't aggravate her the way I do, it's a wonder how she's put up with me all these years.

T e idea is create an incentive to run up front and compete. I do not believe I am the only race fan that thinks there is a lot of points racing going on.

Well I appreciate the invite. maybe this summer?...I live near Charlotte. I have plenty of room here. I usually have my buddy come up from Hilton Head Island for the Coke 600.
My wife would say "you have two feet, get it yourself"...This is why I refer to her as "She who must be obeyed"...LOL!

Changing the track at Bristol did take some excitement out of it.Oh how I miss the Earnhardt,Wallace,Waltrip, days! You have to have someone to love and someone to hate, easy to hate on Jimmy Johnson, but kind of hard to really love any of the current drivers.

back in the late 80's and early 90's I would tell friends my biggest concern was that NASCAR would get all politically correct. I said this because of the influx of sponsor dollars which meant a bunch of new responsibilities on drivers.
Their time. Their image. Corporations that sell consumer goods are hypersensitive to customers.
Fast forward to today. We have virtual gag orders handed down from NASCAR HQ. It's ridiculous. NASCAR has so sanitized the sport that it almost resembles the robot like personality of professional tennis.
Remember the days of John Mc Enroe, Ille Nastase, Jimmy Connors, etc? These guys gave the sport of tennis character. They were on national network tv several weeks during the year. Then the powers that be in tennis decided this was just no longer acceptable. Now when we hear any name in men's tennis except Andy Roddick , we say "who?"...NASCAR is rapidly becoming not only a snoozer on track but in the garage as well.

Oh I do agree.

I worked with a guy years ago that got into an all out brawl with this other co worker who called Davey Allison "ball baby Davey". That was it, game on.

Just saw Stewart's post race rant. He's pissed. Lots of bleeps. Stewart is correct and he has a right to be pissed. Logano says he was "just blocking"..He almost put the 14 in the grass.
I also think Smoke was pissed about Logano putting the 11 into the wall.
Now, I wonder what the "redneck mafia" is going to do to Stewart.
"This here is racin'. They ain't fightin' And no CUSSIN'....
NASCAR should let this one go. They said 'have at it boys'..This is what the fans want.
NASCAR should just leave it alone.

But they won't ...

I think if you watch the restart in question, Lugano was not moving as fast as the rest when Stewart was trying to get around him, almost as if he was slowing down on purpose.

I got that impression my self.
Logano is not making any friends out there.
Stewart said flat out. "I'm gonna bust his ass"..He was pissed!
