My Direc tv Dilema- Stay or go?

When I cancelled I argued over the price going up and just said I can get the same channels with another provider for less. The lady came back on the phone and offered me new customer pricing even though I was only in my 2nd year with direct . I already had dish installed so that's why I didn't take it. When my brother in law calls comcast he states that he's been a long time customer and that he doesn't want to leave but if the price can't be lowered he will have no choice. Comcast lowers it every time . State to them you've been with them over 16 years and that you want to stay.

DIRECTV seems very proud of there new reduced discount policy, so if they don't offer much, they're not necessarily forgeting about or picking on you.
Pat Doyle 1Q2013 conference call said:
Consistent with recent trends, the key driver of this growth, other than our annual price increase, was increased penetration of both new and existing customers paying for advanced services such as our new whole-home DIRECTV Genie entertainment experience as well as our policies to reduce credits and discounting.

Mike White 1Q2013 conference call said:
I think the key continues to be to be disciplined in terms of our discounts and credits, as we've said before; to take responsible price increases, and I felt that we did that in the first quarter.

You could always put a cancel order it for a future date. Let them know the new service starts then.

When we did that it took about a week and we had phone calls and emails galore. Just set it up to cancel in 14 days and see what happens. Be ready to pull the plug though.

Or you could just cancel and sign back up under your wife / parent / child etc. Use her maiden name if you have to or spell the last name slightly differently.

That usually works with any provider. If you can live without tv for a week that works also. As long as you don't send back any equipment you can reactivate as if nothing happened.

I cancelled my last Dish account Thursday at 10:23 am. Saturday at 7:15 pm I get the following email...

They know. It must be a new policy to
Hold the line. However I think in the long
Run they will get more churn.
Plus not a good thing to lose long term subs.
My gut feeling is they just don't really care.

I'm still open to bringing Direc back at
A better deal.

I'll keep y'all posted on what finally happens
If anything? :(

That's very cool! However Direc seems
Much more inflexible.
At least for now.

But I really like what dish did for you that's
Awesome!!!

I got the same email Claude did, sadly, it was after I had directv installed.

Still didn't match my new customer promos with directv though, which when I signed up were fantastic.

You will definitely get comeback offers. They do get better and if you want a genie it will be offered.

I think it's a no-brainer - unless directv has what you really want and DISH or others don't, then ditch DIRECTV and go wtih DISH for the next 2 years (and then back to DIRECTV).

for me, DISH and DIRECTV have what I want so i have no problems churning. GENIE sucks (the second room service performance of the genie) and the junk fees for genie are ridiculous. I will have no problems when my 24mo of DIRECTV is up to churn to dish for 2 years (new equipment from dish, bill credits) and back to directv after 24 mo of that for new customer promotions.

they should offer it at the moment of cancellation and not after it's all over....

Hey Rey

Nothing happened when I cancelled ?
Service will stop Thursday.
Boxes will be sent for receivers.
Nada, nothing from Direc.

All silent on the southeastern front.
It's so bizarre, it would take very little
To keep my acct active.

Absence makes the heart grow fonder. They aren't stupid and they know that you're more likely to bite on an offer when you're less concerned about what you think you should be getting and more concerned about what your missing.

Churn may rise, but the outstanding profit numbers are surely more than making up for it.

A new retention policy is in place and DIRECTV seems to be rather proud of it.

Good point. Still I think short sighted in the long run. Treat enough people this way
and they will lose more than they gain.

hey my friend. what i meant by that is get a reason to stay at the moment of cancellation and not a month later. you and i have talked quite a few times privately and i don't understand why in cases like yours this happens while others including myself experience the opposite.

Not sure what you mean Rey about canceling?
Bottom line is I'd like to stay. I'm out of contract
And willing to reup with the latest equipment.
I think Direc has the best picture out there.
I have some options but ill play this out.
I'm sure ill be the one sorry about this.

Their new retention policy won't last. I can see why they'd want to limit the free equipment but come on! If after 3 years straight and offered not even a decent deal to stay I'd leave too. I think they count on people leaving and returning. Who cares if they don't make their money back off a new subscriber until the 3rd year. These companies will need a reality check sooner or later that if they don't start offering deals to stay then people will just go elsewhere and won't return. Sad they make millions but can't give longtime customers a deal.

Ok,

Update, the office of the president just called me.
They said they would give me 150 off new genie.
Could not guarantee HR44...

So they did something. So, I still have to
pay upgrade fee and Install. Not great
but its something.

So I restored my acct...

I probably should have held out but...

Thanks all for your advise and support!!!

You guys are truly the best.
