So before I get the direc tv folks giving me the business.

ill start off by saying I love direcs service. Its my go to system.
I love the HD picture and all the sports packages. I purchase
just about all the packages to get my Ny sports.
Ive got 3 HR24s and the classic package(all cable channels)
No premiums. Also whole home DVR-love it.
Plus my favorite app to record all my shows from iphone 5.

So, whats the dilemma?
Ive been with direc since 1997 or in that time period.
Three years ago I had countless equipment/dish
issues. They over credited me. So, since then, no
goodies. I pay on average 140 a month-high
tier sub.
I understand this is a business and they have to cover their costs.
However, three years is more than enough time for me to be able to upgrade.

So now I want to upgrade my equipment and they wont do it.
Last csr told me she was baffled that such a long standing sub
with great history cant be taken care of properly. She suggested writing office of president.
I did and got no where.

Ive never had this issue with any provider. Dish which my family
loves, always upgraded me to latest equipment at a fair price.

So, Im out of contract. Do I leave and see if down the road they
take care of me?

Or stay because It will hurt me more than them?

I do have other options of providers so it wont bother me short term.
At least before football season.
Worried I might have to re purchase receivers???

Have you tried retention?
What are you looking to upgrade to?

I've heard if you cancel they have "winback" flyers within a month of cancelling wanting you back

If you cancel, and have another provider to get you by currently, as Ice said, chances are you will get a winback offer soon, which should help you get what you want to your satisfaction.

Thanks Ice @ msmith.
I just get the feeling they don't really care whether I stay or go?
It baffles me. Im on auto payment as well.

I did try retention, I guess I was flagged a couple of years ago.
Not my error. They say your account needs to be reviewed again?
Im really miffed at all of it.

Id like to upgrade to the HR44 and 2 clients.

Yes, I could purchase for 349 for HR44 when available.
However, I really feel direc needs to do something for me.
Not looking for freebie- but at least what the new subs would get

Within a month? Try before they even got the boxes to me to ship the equipment back. I think the 1st email showed up 2 days after I cancelled.

You could always put a cancel order it for a future date. Let them know the new service starts then.

When we did that it took about a week and we had phone calls and emails galore. Just set it up to cancel in 14 days and see what happens. Be ready to pull the plug though.

Or you could just cancel and sign back up under your wife / parent / child etc. Use her maiden name if you have to or spell the last name slightly differently.

I thought that if you have had service recently
At address cancelled, Direc won't renew service?

They will. At least at a year they will, not sure about the time frame we are talking about here.

They should ... just call them and tell them you changed your mind (after you've canceled) and decided you do what thier service.
I doubt that they would turn a potential sub down (even if you been with them already)

You might want to consider going to cable if they have no commitment term. That way if you have an offer from Directv that you want to take it will be easier. I think any other provider you go to has commitments.

My year of promotional no-contract cable service ends next month, after being with Directv for 10 years before that. I called last week to add HBO as they have a $8 promotion. After the agent adds HBO she tells me that will bring my bill to $193! I am currently paying $123 for cable and internet. That is quite a price increase for the second year.

I received a win back mail from Directv yesterday. Seems to be offering me the same deal that new subscribers get. So I might be switching back to Directv sooner than I expected.

It doesn't sound like leaving is a viable option and many of the above options run a high risk of cancellation.

DIRECTV seems to be pretty happy with their new policy of clamping down on free stuff so I'm wondering if you're just experiencing the effects of this new business model.

The funny thing here for me is I can say the same thing for Dish Network. They didn't want to offer me a thing to upgrade to hopper a few months ago. Now they will do me a favor and only charge me $100 hopper with sling and an install charge for the new receiver. Goodbye to them. In two yrs they clear more than 3K for me. As Donald Trump says-your fired. Clearly the best method is to switch providers every two yrs. I don't care about NFL which definitely keeps customers with Directv. I am usually the guy going for the great deals and I should have left Dish a while ago. Also in this economy I would think that those buy full packages and paying bills on time are sought after customers.

I don't blame you I'd be mad to. Maybe that's why they say get the protection plan and upgrade every 2 years free . Maybe part of the plan costs go towards the upgrade? They want customers to stay but when they go to cancel ddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddxp

Your absolutely right. If dish is pulling the
Same thing you should cancel as well.
I think I paid 50 bucks to upgrade to dish with
Sling. Dish is not stellar but I have to say lately
Past 3 years their customer service has been better than Direc. At least for me. 100 bucks upgrade for hopper is really not bad. Direc for
All the money I give them is going to charge me
299 for genie plus 50 for install! No thank you!!

However if you feel you are not being taken care
Of properly maybe your onto something with the
2 year switch. I do think they, sat providers, care mostly about new subs. It's a shame because
They are causing churn.

So I called direc to cancel.
Retention reviewed account once again. I was told
that I have received no credit or upgrades in 3 years.
That I'm an Ideal customer??
They told me to wait seven days and office of president
will call me back and resolve issue.

Im all paid up until may 30th.
Should I just pull plug already or wait???
CSR said I should set up another provider
on 30th just in case nothing is done.

Really have little faith that ''issue'' will be fixed.
All I wanted to do was upgrade...

I would schedule the cutoff for the date you are paid through, that would at least show in the notes, and perhaps give you more leverage. Of course, be prepared to have it really shut off in the off chance that it does not.
