multiswitch performance

I recently purchased an Eagle Aspen 5x8 multiswitch. When using the UHF/VHF input with my off air antenna, the local stations are noisy/poor picture - DirectvTV ok. When I disconnect the UHF/VHF input and feed it into a combiner with the RCVR output (i.e. bypass the UHF/VHF multiswitch function), the local station picture quality is dramatically improved. I already have an active amplifier on the off air antenna. I am very disappointed in the performance of the switch - can anything be done to restore full functionality with the UHF/VHF input?
