I am sorry to ask this as I know it has been asked a thousand times. I could not find anything in the searches I did to help. I live in a place where my DMA is Columbus, Ga. I have an OTA antenna but cannot get Fox or NBC. I have went through the whole wavier thing. I have the Choice Extra package and would like to get my HD locals since I think they would be free with that package. I have only been a DirecTV customer for a few weeks and am not sure how the 'moving' thing works. So here are my questions:

1. How does it work? Do I just call and say "Hey, got an extra house or something out of town and that is where the service is? I want to know what to say so I don't sound like I have no clue what I am talking about. Do they mail anything or if I have trouble will they send the tech there instead of my billing address? Since I am changing the service address won't they want to come out and hook the dish up there as the service is currently at a different address?

2. I know that DirecTV offers Dothan, Al locals which is about 50 miles from me, they are in SD now but will soon go to HD. I have a relative that lives in Dothan. If I 'move' there will I need an extra dish to get the Dothan locals. I have the Slimline dish now. I tried looking but I cannot find Dothan on any bird at all according to lyngsat.

3. If I need an extra dish I won't worry about Dothan. I did notice on Lyngsat that Birmingham is on the 99 bird. I can get that with my slimline but I am about 130 miles South of them so I am not sure about the spot beam. Is there anyway to see about the spot and what exactly is the right way to go about 'moving' since I don't know any in Birmingham.

I am sorry for all the questions but I have asked DirecTV and looked at the schedules and it seems that we may not get Columbus, Ga. locals for a very long time if ever. Thanks, everyone

Yes. Just tell them you have a 2nd home, summer home, a new home, etc. Change the SERVICE address only and not the billing address. That way bills and mail will continue to come to your regular address.

I want to know what to say so I don't sound like I have no clue what I am talking about. Do they mail anything or if I have trouble will they send the tech there instead of my billing address?

Yes, a tech will be sent to the service address, that's where the service is - right?! You'll either need to fix it yourself or move back when you need work.
Since I am changing the service address won't they want to come out and hook the dish up there as the service is currently at a different address?
Not if you tell them you already have it setup and ready to go, just say you only need to update the address since you already have the units installed and running.

You should have no problems getting Dothan at only 50 miles. They share channels with Panama City and I don't see NBC (a PC station) listed for Dothan, but it may fall under "significantly viewed".

No 2nd dish needed for locals. 130 miles should be okay but could be pushing limits. No maps for spotbeams. Most people find a trailer park, appt complex, etc and pick some unused (non-existent) lot number. (so I've heard)

Thanks for all the help. I 'moved' to Atlanta. I have HR20's and they are broadband connected I hope that doesn't screw me up.
