Mounting a receiver vertical/upright

Does it hurt the receiver (not a DVR) if I mount it upright/vertical?

Reason I ask is the spot where my HDTV is in the computer room there is no shelf for the receiver. If I place it in front of the TV then I cant control the TV volume, etc. But there is enough room on the side if the receiver is mounted vertical...and it has plenty of ventilation

As long as the ventilation holes aren't blocked I don't see why not. Hard drives function fine horizontal or vertical.

All receivers can be mounted vertically as long as you do not block any ventilation.
If it vents on the side, get two 1" spacers (small blocks of wood work well) and space it up an inch.

Heck you can mount the receiver upside down if you want
