More and more streaming FAST channels on DISH

I don' think these channels are really worth much. They have a ton of commercials and dead space while a sign says "We will be back soon." It makes watching anything like torture. I tried to watch a horror movie at my buddy's house on his receiver and it was like 3 minutes of show and 4 minutes of commercials and the sign saying we will be back soon while music plays. No thank you.
I agree. I don't find very much compelling content on any of these channels, and find the schedule many times doesn't sync with what's actually being shown. Then there are the commercials. I have to believe it costs Dish nothing to include these channels.

I updated my master table at: DISH TV "Bonus View" Channels
Thank you !
I found one worth watching, Dr G Medical Examiner. Love that show and Dr. G. The breaks aren't too bad, 2 minutes and no music.

Edit: There is music, I didn't notice on the first watch, it's not that awful like the horror movie channel music. I gave up on that one very quickly.

You're very welcome. And I agree Dr G is a good one. I just wish these Bonus View channels could be recorded.
I'm sure Dish is working on it. I don't know how different the satellite data stream is from the internet stream, but there may be significant software hurdles to be overcome in joining the two into the recording stream. I hope it does not corrupt the satellite recording stream in any way.

In the thread located here, brittanygarden claims recording of the streaming channels has been enabled (see 2nd post). I haven't tried it yet since I'm at work but will test it tonight! :bounce:

Yes she stated that.

its a good start. :)
Do you think they will work towards being able to record more streaming channels at the same time like Sling TV can do with their cloud dvr? Maybe add a Cloud DVR feature to the Hopper receiver? It would certainly make it a better receiver and the older Hopper with Sling could be more useful for recording too, since it is limited to 3 tuners, 5 if you have an dual usb ota dongle.

There is software out there that can record almost any stream to a PC, perhaps something similar could be coded for the Hopper.

All that is done at the provider stream not on the Hopper. I can do that also with my Fire Stick on many streams but there is no buffer capability on the Fire Stick.
This is not done via the provider stream but rather from the Hopper's HD. If you care to verify tune to a fast channel then immediately rewind. You will hit the limited reach message. Watch for several minutes then try this again and you can rewind back to the point that you first tuned in. Now tune up one channel then come back and again you will only be able to rewind a couple seconds. These are most likely "IP multicast streams"

"IP multicast operation does not require an active source to know about the receivers of the group. The multicast tree construction is receiver driven and is initiated by network nodes that are close to the receivers. IP multicast scales to a large receiver population. The IP multicast model has been described by Internet architect Dave Clark as, "You put packets in at one end, and the network conspires to deliver them to anyone who asks."[5]"
