Monster Distributes to Provide Programmes to Animania HD, High-Definition Channel Available Exclusively on VOOM, New Satellite TV Service in the US.
Monster Distributes has just concluded a 3-programme deal with Animania HD. Launched this October, Animania HD is one of 21 brand-new, commercial-free HD (high-definition) channels created by Rainbow Media Holdings, LLC and available exclusively on VOOM, the first television service to offer a comprehensive array of HDTV programming to customers throughout the continental United States.

The deal with Animania HD includes both Monster’s animated caterpillar stories, Hermie : A Common Caterpillar, from US-based GlueWorks Entertainment and The Lost Little Caterpillar, from Iceland-based Caoz Entertainment. Also included is Ape, a half hour model animation from Dublin based Treasure Entertainment.

“Animania HD provides animated kids programming that is delivered with such spectacular images the viewer feels as if they’re being drawn into the programme,” said Josh Sapan, president and CEO, Rainbow Media Holdings, LLC, creators of Animania HD. “We’re thrilled to be working with Monster Distributes to deliver such high quality programming to kids.”

Andrew Fitzpatrick, Chairman of Monster Distributes, said, “Animania HD is such a wonderful idea that will bring animation to life in a way that can only be done in high-definition.”

With voice-over talent from Tim Conway, Don Knotts, and Melissa Disney, Max Lucado’s Hermie: A Common Caterpillar is the clever animated story of two caterpillars who long to escape their dull, boring lives and become something great. The Lost Little Caterpillar tells the story of the adventure of a spellbound princess and her struggle to understand the complexities of life. Set in New York and voiced by Alfred Molina (Frida, Chocolat, Magnolia, Species), comedian Dom Irrera (The Big Lebowski) and Michael McElhatton (The Actors, I Went Down), Ape tells the story of an orangutan who escapes from the zoo and, having learned to pass himself off as a man, goes on to become a famous chat show presenter, described as a cross between Jay Leno and Tony Soprano.

Animania HD delivers big, bold fun for kids, featuring long and short-form animation from award-winning festivals to popular cartoon classics delivered with stunning image and audio quality only possible in HDTV.

A new half hour film from Icelandic-based production company CAOZ, The Lost Little Caterpillar tells the story of the adventure of a spellbound princess and her struggle to understand the complexities of life.

When Katie opens her eyes for the first time, she thinks that everything around her is beautiful. She is probably the smallest creature in the garden, and is very happy on her little leaf, eating and watching everything that goes on.

Until one day she meets a hostile ladybird, who tells her how ugly and fat she is. When Katie accidentally falls off her leaf, her adventure through the garden begins. She encounters many other creatures both friend and foe, including a friendly worm, a buzzing bee, a friendly old spider and a sparrow who tries to feed her to her chicks!

Katie’s journey teaches her a lot about life and her journey is complete when she finally turns into a beautiful caterpillar.

Written by Fridrik Erlingsson, author of Benjamin Dove, an award-winning children's novel, which was later made into a full feature, and directed, illustrated and animated by Gunnar Karlsson, a well known icelandic animator, the film premiered in Reykjevik at the end of August 2002, and set a local box-office hit for a short film.

Written, directed and animated by award-winning writer Rory Bresnihan and produced by Robert Walpole and Paddy Breathnach of Treasure Entertainment, Ape is an Ireland/UK coproduction and was funded by RTE’s IPU, RTE International, the Irish Film Board and the Film Council of the UK.

Ape premiered on RTE on St Stephen’s Day with an average share of 15% (27% between 15-24 year olds)

Sorry for my lack of knowledge on the liturgical calendar, but when was St Stephen's day and assume discussion relates to premier in the UK.
