Biggio Angry Over Cancer Kids Pin Flap

KISSIMMEE, Fla. (AP) -- Craig Biggio was angry at the commissioner's office Thursday night after he was told to stop wearing a pin on his cap that bears the logo of a foundation that helps children with cancer.
The Houston Astros star said he has worn the bright yellow, sun-shaped pin, featuring the logo for the Sunshine Kids foundation, on his hat during spring training games for the past 20 years without a problem. He is the national spokesman for the foundation and is very active in its work.
"I'm not a disrespectful person and I don't disrespect the game," Biggio said. "But I've been wearing this pin for 20 years because it puts smiles on 20,000-something cancer patients' faces."
Biggio said someone in the commissioner's office contacted the Astros about instructing him to remove the pin, but he wasn't sure who it was. He said Houston general manager Tim Purpura was sent a fax with a picture of Biggio from Wednesday night's game.
Purpura declined to comment on the matter, as did a spokesman for Major League Baseball.
"Major League Baseball does a lot of good things, but this is one of the stupid things," Biggio said.

On the face of this it may seem stupid, but if they let him were something, where does MLB draw the line? You know some player will start selling ads on his hat etc...

If it was something that made MLB money I bet he would be allowed to wear it.

Every day I hear something about MLB that just has me shaking my head.

Actually they should be allowed to where it during Pre Season games, afterall the teams pretty much where then ugliest uniforms they can find and call it thier Alternate jersey, why not, not worry about it in the pre season ???

You are 100% right. IF this was making money for MLB, they would NOT ONLY have the pins on EVERY PLAYERS hat, but a replica would be STITCHED on the uniform and a replica PAINTED on the outfield wall!!

and they would be selling souvenirs at ball park gift shops with the emblem on it as well for fans to help support the cause if mlb was getting a cut.

Well, they've let him do it for the past 20 years. Why crack down on it during his final season?

MLB is being run by a bunch of imbeciles these days, and this just makes it even more clear. They are a bunch of greedy b*stards and they have absolutely NO concept of good PR. If it weren't for it being such a great game, MLB would be a disaster. There needs to be a complete overhaul of the entire executive team that runs MLB, and it needs to start with the commissioner.

Go Astros! Go Biggio!

I can't believe some of the things that MLB does and then others they allow with no problem.

When can we expect this logo on all the jerseys?

My Texas Rangers don't have a shot, but I blame the owner, Tom Hicks, for not making one small architechural change to the Ballpark in Arlington. If he would relocate the Diamond Club, it would turn the park made for hitting, to a park made for pitching.

one more reason to not spend money on a game where 90% of the teams have no chance year, after year, after year, after year......

Yeah right.... Only the Tigers and Cardinals fan beg to differ... The top spenders watched from their living rooms....

And the Yankees, the biggest spenders, haven't won in 6 years...
