MLB 2013-2014 off-season moves

Former managers Bobby Cox, Joe Torre, and Tony La Russa elected to the Baseball Hall of Fame by the Veterans committee.

As Keith Olbermann mentioned last night, LaRussa shouldn't be going in. He was the manager of Canseco and McGuire when they were practically shooting up steroids in front of him in the clubhouse. He backed both of them, claiming that they didn't use. He then hired McGuire to rehabilitate his image, presumably to give him a better chance to get into the hall. If he didn't have those two, he may not have won nearly as many games and wouldn't be considered HOF worthy.

Can anyone identify the MLB player in the photo below?? Not sure if he won the ugly Christmas sweater contest, or not....

MLB has eliminated home plate collisions and will require players to slide into the plate. Must be approved by MLBPA.

So now the catcher can stand over the plate, block the whole thing, and prevent the runner from access.

I think this is a stupid idea.

Here is what is being proposed.

Under the rules changes being discussed, sources told Olney:
• Catchers will not be allowed to block home plate.

• Runners will not be permitted to target the catchers.

• The question of whether or not the plate was blocked or the runner targeted the catcher will be reviewable, with an immediate remedy available to the umpires.
• Catchers or runners who violate the new rules will be subject to disciplinary action.

Boy THIS is opening up a whole nother box of questions.

This is a VERY BAD idea.

Catcher can't block the plate ... so if the runner gets past 3rd before the ball is thrown towards the catcher he's Out ?

Giants sign Mike Morse for $5 million and a lot of incentives.

This is a typical SF move. They sign a has been, a could be, or a washed-up for little, and then they somehow have the best year of their career. I would not be surprised if Morse makes a run for MVP.
