MLB 2009 Season

First impressions on opening day:

KCK, Salsa- VERY good opening statements- the Marlins have GREAT bats and the Angels play their owb way- timely offense and solid pitching.

HD- It's only one game, and besides, Texas is a hard-hitting team. They will be a difficult team for all pitchers.

Mets82- if this is what the Mets' bullpen is like, then that's a good thing.

Any Yankee fans- well... that didn't go well. Boy, who's going to fill in as this site's Yankee voice of opinion until you-know-who returns?

Jimbo, Wozniak- Um.... Bill and I are available to pitch tomorrow.:D Give us the word, and either one of us will fly to Canada.

Not a great start for Verlander, I know its only one game, but with all the other issues our pitchers have, I would have liked for our number one to get off to a better start....Oh well like the Yankees manager said today, guess we wont go undefeated:)

Gee Sabre's,
With all the pitchers that struggled yesterday you pick the Tigers to be the ones you point out ?

I think the Tiger pitching will do fine, Verlander had a bad start , Sabathia had a bad start, Lee had a bad start.
But Verlander and the Tigers are the ones that won't pitch ?

It's only ONE GAME, this isn't the NFL, they play 161 MORE GAMES.

Ummm, we haven't even gone thru the rotation yet, sit back and watch a month or so before you jump on the Tigers can't pitch bandwagon.

Jackson and Galarraga are solid.
Porcello will be interesting to watch this year.

I think this will be a fun year to watch develop, aweful lot of people seem to think that one game is going to be a sign of the whole season, sorry, I don't buy it.

btw, mark down Verlander for 15-20 wins this year ....maybe more.

Jimbo

Salsa, you had to be impressed by the Marlins' start to the season.

The Marlins gave us EVERYTHING we wanted....a good lead-off hitter that can set the table....home runs from THE key guys...and improved defense. HOPEFULLY, the NEW and IMPROVED Marlins from yesterday will be like this all year. There is BIG expectations from this team....AS LONG AS they stay healthy, THAT has been the key TO success and FROM success.

Nice start by the Pirates! Came back from 2 down twice, and scored 4 runs in the top of the ninth to put a damper on the Cards' home opener 6-4. :)

Season opener is one of the happiest times of a Pirates fan's season. But as any true Pirate fan knows these days, it's usually all downhill from here. Maybe this season will be a miracle one! ;)

I think the Reds did pretty good against one of the best pitchers in the game.

When I made my predictions, the Reds were my surprise team. I had them finishing 2nd, and winning the Wild Card I think. I think there are bright days ahead for Reds fans....they have a solid young team. Hopefully their young arms come through.

Did you catch the Yankees opener in Baltimore?

the line for CC Sabbathia: 6 earned runs, 8 hits, walked 5 and 0 strikeouts in just 4.1 innings.

What a bust.

Looks like Sabbathia is the new fatman of the American League.

Easy fella.

As a lifelong Sabbathia follower in Cleveland, I can tell you that C.C. historically starts off slow. Take a look at his first 4 games last year. He was absolutely atrocious in his first 4 starts in '08 and had a bloated 13+ ERA before he regained his dominant form.

Give the poor guy a chance. You can't write him off after 1 measly game!

Ditto from this Indians fan.
