Missing HD Channels

I recently changed to DirectTV from Dishnetwork. I was wondering why DishNetwork had channels in HD that DirectTV doesn't? Does the provider need to pay more for the HD programs?

Specifically: My wife watches a show on E! Entertainment TV and I frequently watch DIY Channel. Both were in HD on DishNetwork but neither are HD on DirectTV?

I know what you mean. Just switched to DTV earlier this week from Dish. I really wish they'd add AMC-HD, TCM-HD and BBCA-HD. Still glad I switched, though.

Each company has hd channels that the other doesn't. Directv will likely get E! and DIY in hd, but Dish will never have the YES network.

Some so called HD channels run mostly in Stretchovision so having it in HD is really no benefit.
