Missing HD channels, 722 receiver on Dish 500

I am new to this board, just did a "Dish it Up" upgrade from a 625 to a 722K after purchase of a new HDTV. Dish gave me the new receiver for $50 and threw in HD service for free for a year (didn't even have to ask). However, when the tech brought out the new receiver and hooked it up, she apparently didn't check to make sure that all HD channels in the HD Bronze package were available and I didn't think to check myself assuming that if I received one I was getting them all.

I spent an hour or more on the phone with DISH tech support with them trying to resolve the issue with Switch Checks, System Resets, etc. They go to the bottom of their list of things to check and decided to ship me a replacement receiver. I got frustrated and started doing some of my own research and found this forum. I'm hoping someone can give me a little further information to be armed with when I call DISH back after the replacement receiver makes no difference. It appears to me at this point that something with my Satellite dish/LNB/Switch setup is causing me to not receive any of the HD channels broadcast on 61.5. For example, I get SYFY HD and ESPN HD but not Food Network HD or Discovery HD.

Is there something I can check on the dish itself, or with screens in the receiver install menu to determine that I have some wiring/hardware deficiency? From the ground I can see the dish itself says DISH 500, there is a single cable running from the dish to the receiver, and then a splitter to connect that cable to the two inputs on the 722. On my "System Info One" screen it says:

Status - Check "Details" for LNB
On Details I see:

LNB Drift Detected...
0x0e,0xa1,119(e -6)
0x0e, 0xa1, 110(e -6)

STB Health Lite
Tuner 0 as of 11/30/09 11:33am
Orbital 14 15 16 21
110 77 72 76 72
119 68 70 73 71
129 0 0 0 0

I have read that error values on LNB drift greater than +/- 8 warrant LNB replacement, so perhaps this is a side issue and not the cause of my missing channels.

If there is anything further I can post here that would be helpful in troubleshooting this issue let me know.

Thanks in advance -

Greg

The dish 500 will not give you the HD channels. you need a new dish. Either a 1000.2 or 1000.4 for the HD channels. If you need 61.5 then it would be the dish 1000.4. It would get 61.5, 72,7, & 77.

Great, retorical question of course, but why did the tech that came out to install my 722 not realize that the Dish I had was not going to work? I specifically mentioned that I was doing this upgrade to get HD channels.

I called DISH back today after basically coming to this conclusion myself and was told I must wait for the replacement receiver to arrive and not work before they can schedule another service call to send out a tech.

What a pain.

Sh*t for brains. Time for CSR roulette & advanced tech dept to get some one out w/a new dish.

You can never count on Customer service. All they know is what is on the screen in front of them. As for your installer he obviously didn't know what he was doing. He should have done a check switch before leaving. That would have told him that your dish was not the proper dish.

this falls under incomplete work call back and say the tech did not complete the job as he was suppose to install another dish so you can get hd channels all the techs no this insist they call dispatch to ask why tech didn't install proper equipment. It is clearly stated on the work order.

Note: 129 is showing up on this screen. Therefore, the dish is set up for 129 or it wouldn't even be there. At some point during the installation, a check switch test was performed and 129 was detected.

At this point, it isn't a bad tech or bad CSR....it is a bad LNB. They need to schedule the tech back out to check on it.

Fortunately, you have a 90d warranty on the installation and there wouldn't be any problem getting the tech back out.

On a side note: LNB drift isn't that big of an issue as it once was. The newer rcvrs can compensate for minor drift with software.

OK makes sense

OK I was wondering why it showed 129 at all. before doing anything else should try to clear the switch matrix. Go in and disconnect the inputs to the 722k from the separator. Then run a check switch. After that hook the sat inputs back up and run check switch again then see if it shows anything on 129. There has to be either a 3rd LNB on a 1000.2 or 2 dishes pointed at 110/119 then one for 129. On the 2 dish set up there would be a chance that he has a DPP-44 and the power inserter may be unplugged and the DPP-44 isn't working correctly. One last thing do you 1 dish or 2. I think you may be looking at the set up screen and see the dish 500 as the type of dish and that only means that it isn't a dish 300 single LNB dish.

on 722s, if you check the system info it will always show up the 129, no matter what dish is installed. the 722 just knows that the 129 SHOULD be installed. sounds to me like you got screwed

Goto the check switch screen.
Menu> 6 > 1 > 1 > check switch
What appears there?

Its possible that the csr set you up for a rcvr upgrade with no additional sat installation.
That combined with a lazy or mildly incompetent technician caused the issue. At any rate, its true, you are under 90 day warranty and will have to schedule another appointment to get it resolved.

No this falls under tech stupidity if he didn't look at the dish before he even started the job.
