Hey everybody I live here in tampa florida and Im trying to get the channels from Miami I heard its possible to do but Im so brand new to sattelites and I need help To find Which Dish I should buy, a good receiver and where to point the dish in the sky..

If im asking too much its cause Im willing to learn this cause its very intresting to me..

Thanks,
Gerard

Well, I don't live out that way, but from what I hear, these are the facts:
- Dish left them in the clear for a while, on purpose
- they were on a spot beam and only receivable by folks in maybe a 200 mile circle around Miami
- this summer, they turned the encryption back on
- the only other non-encrypted channels on Dish, are NASA and Angel One

Now, if you want real FTA, here is a beginner's list by language and by satellite.
Once you are into it, you'll be wanting more technical info, like TheList, here.

We recommend:
- any FTA receiver with blind scan (ask and we'll give ya a list of brands/models)
- a 36" dish
- a linear LNB called either Standard or Universal (but not Circular )

:)Welcome!:) This is a great hobby!

The old saying is read till your eyes bleed. FTA is a real DIY kind of thing, lots of help here if you ask. Learn the jargon, do your homework, and your first setup will work like a charm rather than become a frustration.

The Dishes that site is selling is not for FTA (Wrong LNB and they are too small), they are for DishNetwork.

Most satellites from 58° West to 129° West can be seen by any part of the Continental US. (Thankfully they do not use Spot Beams)

ok lol sorry about that lmao.. but what is it for miami

I think I understand your question, so I will try to explain just a little. As you read through these forums, you may not yet understand the language.

Any satellite that is "visible" to your location in Miami, is for Miami! The signal from the satellite does not bend, but is much like a light beam. If you have trees or building, or even hills between you and the satellite you would not get a signal from it. As you look at the list and at the satellite locater or finder or might be thought of as Line Of Sight calculator (LOS) you enter your exact or close location and the calculator will tell you what you might see. Then as you look from your location toward the satellite (also called the 'bird') if there are trees or anything else between you and the bird, your dish (antenna) may not be able to see the signal. Where I am right now, (South Everett, WA) I can not see any satellites within about +/- 5 degrees of my true south, because my neighbor accross the street has two very tall trees on his back fence line.

I would be careful to order from the RECOMMENDED suppliers that are mentioned in previous post on your thread -- above, Other dealers may be more interested in $$$$ than in making you able to receive FREE To Air satellite TV - and BE a HAPPY customer. Both of them will work with you. Because you are on the East Coast, Sadoun might be the better choice for you ONLY because the shipping MIGHT be less. I am on the West Coast, so I prefer SatelliteAV - mainly for that reason (but also because they are the Parent company of Glorystar System!).

I hope that answers some of your questions. If you tjhink the answers you get do not address your question, ask for someone to rephrase their answer, by asking again, saying, "to rephrase my question".

POP:):up:up

don't know the "why", just the "is"

I don't have it in writing , nor the smoking gun, but this other recent thread on the Miami situation may shed some light on the subject. -
