Mexico signal issues

Although right now I'm splitting my time between Seattle and Vancouver Island, I also own property along the shores of Lake Chapala. We are a suburb of Guadalajara and about 260 miles West-West North West of Mexico City. Apparently the sat dealers are getting all of the Conus beams with a 1.8 meter in Guadalajara, but some are suggesting that only as far south as Lake Chapala (30 miles?) that you would do better with a 2.4 meter. Many are contemplating expanding from only 119 to perhaps what the can get on 110 and all of the HD on 129.

So with a large enough sat dish with a hot LNB I guess many on the fringes of the footprint in Mexico will continue to be able to watch SD on 119

As long as you can get the signal and have a VIP receiver(MPEG4) you can use 72.7.

Will I be able to use a 322 receiver just for the purpose of checking if I get signal ?
And what would the azimuth and elevation be from the following location :
16.26 - 86.6

Pakal

You mean HD locals? you can get some CONUS on 77

Where in Costa Rica are you located? These are the TPs I'm getting in Cartago

02 - 34 (E7?)
06 - 62 (E14)
10 - 52 (E14)
11 - 48 (E14)
14 - 51 (E14)
15 - 57 (E14)
18 - 58 (E14)
19 - 57 (E14)

I am getting those TPs too with similar numbers in Escazu. I am thinking those TPs will stay as is for CR.

What do I have to do?

Hello. I am not an expert, i have a 722k and have no channels.

It was working with a .90 meter/3 ft antenna, then I tried to align a bigger antenna (1.8 meters/6ft) but I can't lock the sat. Do I have to know a tip or a hint?. Should I point the antenna more to the right or to the left or up or down?. Is the new sat at the same point as the old?.
I don't want to call an expert, I would like to do it myself but I don't know how to make the alignment manually, I don't have sat finder, just my hands and trying and trying. Wich transponder should I look for?.

At Irapuato, Guanajuato (central México) my readings at 10:40 pm with the big antenna and without clouds are:

01 00
02 55 (But no channels in this, thanks).

The 322 should be able to tune the 72.7 signals but of course it will not view them. Since that receiver is 8PSK capable and not MPEG4 capable.

I'm not sure on the coordinates. Check Dishpointer.com

Big dish

Thank you Iceberg, in fact I used the big dish already to get 110 and 129, but I want now the 119.

Do you know if there are blueprints or graphics about the design of dishes?, maybe is not well designed the dish.

I will spend tomorrow's afternoon looking for a better signal, now I just have some ESPN's, and CNN.

See ya!.

I suggest you get an 8' dish so you can use it to get 110 ans 119 with a multilnb holder, you can find them in jalisco pm me if you need some help

from the pic of the dish it looks like the LNB is too far way from the dish. That results in poor reception numbers

LNB position is correct remember is a big dish and it has to be in proportion

I'm fully aware its a big dish....I work with them too as per my signature

What I'm saying is from the pic since I cant blow it up bigger it looks like the LNB is about 3 or 4 inches too far out compared to the dish unless the LNB truly has to fit in the end of the arm of the dish

I'll apologize in advance for being a newbie and maybe asking dumb questions, but here goes another: According to digiblur, "Looks like everything is coming from E14 now." If so, can someone please explain the problem I'm having. Please look at the table below. Prior to the move I had decent reception of 6 channels listed. Now I can't get them at all. Transponders 9, 13 and 17 are all listed on the CONUS beam, so why am I getting everything else that I used to get off E*7 before the move to E*14? Any enlightenment would be greatly appreciated.

Channel TP Signal Strength Status
212 -9 -0
211 -9 -0
210 -9 -0
209 -13 -5 -Not Locked
208 -13 -5 -Not Locked
150 -17 -5 -Not locked

I'm not sure understand your question exactly? Could you please post your signal strengths on transponder 6-21?

Thanks for the quick reply. To clarify my question, until May 25th I was ables to receive Channels 150, 208, 209, 210, 211, and 212. These were all on the CONUS beam. As of yesterday I cannot receive these channels. I get the "Signal lost, acquiring signal" screens instead. According to the CONUS chart, these channels are on the CONUS beam on the transponders that I originally listed:

212 -9 -0
211 -9 -0
210 -9 -0
209 -13 -5 -Not Locked
208 -13 -5 -Not Locked
150 -17 -5 -Not locked

The format being channel - transponder- signal strength- and not locked if displayed as such.

Here's today's signals.

We live in Melaque (North of Manzanillo). We still get some of the channels, including HBO and Showtime.

TP 6, 8, 10, 11, 14, 18, 19 and 21 are gone.
We are waiting until mid-June to make a decision to either ditch Dishnet or buy a larger antenna (currently using a 1.2 m). In the meantime, we have Shaw as a back up, but their Motorola DVR is a piece of crap compared to the Dishnet DVR w have now.

Same here! Waiting for mid-June and the transition to E14 to be complete and see what testers say to decide between ditching Dishnet or changing the whole system to DTV... I'm in Mexico City maybe after all is said and done with a 2.40mts we'll get it all back...

I'm new to this forum and don't know if I am doing this correctly. I had Dish Network in Durango, Dgo., and just a few days ago I completely lost my signal. Here again, I don't know very much about the satellite business. I was receiving from satellite 119 only. Has Dish Network made the signal un available here? Is there anyway I can receive a signal?

ok, to help out I went today and pointed my 1.50 meter offset dish to the 119 and got with my FTA receiver the following values.
Location Mexico, Puebla

tp sig qual
6 69 89
10 67 87
11 65 85
12 55 54
14 65 86
15 67 89
16 53 53
18 68 88
19 67 87

Recommendation : I tested several dishes before buying one here in mexico and learned that the copies of Channel master size 1.80 meter have less gain as a steel 1.50 meter.
Either you buy a OEM good fiberglass antenna comming from the US or buy a made in china steel antenna. If you need info of where to buy glad can i help.

What I need is help finding where to buy a steel offset antena size 1.80 meter. I know ITB USA has that model. Does any body know where to buy it ??

Today at night I can connect my Dish Mexico receiver to the antena that I pointed and search for values so its comparable to the values you are writing.

Thats for sure,
I know of a few who get DirecTV in Mexico, but most of them are closer to the border, Can you get the DirecTV 101 sat signal in Mexico City?

alexcast,
That is an impressive set-up, maybe with that big of dish, you need to re-adjust the LNB's for the Satellite changeover.

There is a lot of DN subs in the mayan riviera... and signal was good enoug that we could use a 1.2 mt dish.... Now most of the TP's are gone and will wait to see if there is anything we can do to keep them with signal.

I'm trying to figure out what channels are on E1, E4 and E8 at 77°. 72.7 is completely out of reach here... 61.5 can be found with a 1.8 mt dish and 110 can be found at great strength even with a .9 mt dish... I hope i can continue getting the programing...

Saludos from Cozumel!

Hello, I always have posted in the past to People in Mexico, that there are a whole bunch of copied antennas in the market that will not perform as well as US made antennas, the luck was that the signal was stong, now that you require the gain and efficiency of them they can't response as well as US ones.

Why don't you buy Channel Master (Andrew) 6 ft. (1.80 m) in the US. You can buy them for arround $400 and they perform very well, I guess there must be ways of shipping via ground......if you want 8 ft. you could buy Andersen, there is a guy in Mexico that copies from Andersen their web site is antenas of Jalisco Agraz or something like that.

The original one:

Andersen Manufacturing Inc, True Focus VSAT Offset Satellite Antennas

Copy:

Tipo Offset (Banda-Ku)

I can tell you first hand that Andersen manufacture their antennas with a technique called Explosive Hydroforming, their antennas perform very well, I have compared them to Chanel Master, Prodelin and they're right up there.....by the other hand I never have made a test with Mexican made antenas, all I have seen are copies made here in my country, they look good, but having a good look doesn't mean they perform as well...

Good Luck!!!
