Me & OTARD vs. the neighbor.....hee hee

Here's the funny thing. I've dealt with this issue before years ago when they tried this "one dish" rule. I told them they couldnt do that because at the time if you had Dish Network you NEEDED two dishes to get all the locals. For the folks who dont know, back 7-8 years ago Dish use to put the "main" locals on 110 or 119 and the "minor" locals on 61.5 or 148. So most major cities needed two dishes to get the locals. Minneapolis needed it for a couple PBS stations.

Also here we have some folks who want ethnic channels so they need two dishes. Heck I've done a couple 97W installs for folks who have FTA and Dish or Direct. They said "we only can have one dish" and I told them "no you can put as many up as you want. I'm the HOA president and I know what we can do" :)

I just think its funny that she's been my neighbor for 6 years now and this is the first time she's said anything about it.....but then again this is the association board who chose the roofer based on a "pretty proposal" and not the fact he was 4 grand higher. I'm serious. I've got a buddy who has a roofing company and he was 4 grand less than this other company. But since the other company gave us this binder with a "stock" list of every little thing they would supposedly do on the proposal and all their certifications and my buddy gave them a proposal that wasn't as "thorough" they chose the other guy.

Maybe she got wind of your "Pornstar" dishes!! :D

It is funny how people that hunt near my house think that all I get on my dishes is porn!!!...

If they only knew the truth! I do not know how having satellite dishes means you watch porn!

so tonight I was out with the "porta-a-bud" doing some scanning to update thelist and she came home. Her 2 1/2 year old son always comes over and says hi so he came over to "see whatcha doing" and she came over right after that and talked to me like nothing happened yesterday :)

That's exactly why I live in an area that doesnt have HOA's!

This has NOTHING to do with HOA's at its face. Most HOAs are very good and serve a great purpose and are run by decent people. Ice's example illustrates that it's these very specific people thay are allowed to get into (or stay in) HOAs that are also allowed to run the HOAs into the ground that just make the rest look bad. People that complain about all HOAs being bad are simply uneducated to why they do and can do. Its throwing the baby out with the bath water and stereotyping with a very wide brush. It just doesn't hold water. And for those that say country living..... please... I have driven through and lived in them... and I can't begin to tell you some of the tragic things I have seen as well as some of the nazi-like attitudes that can be displayed in them thar little towns and their snooty gossip snobs. The bottom line is; any town or HOA that gets these types of folks in; needs to get them right back out and not allow them to lay roots as they say! I have lived in HOA after HOA in every city I have moved to and the benefits outweigh not being in an HOA 99% of the time.

End rant.

If this is too political, then delete it, but HOAs are a microcosm of governmental bodies today: filled with beaurocrats who want recognition and control and have nothing better to do than to try to control the lives of others, passing rules and regulations that they feel only apply to other people [evidence the hop trellis] because in their minds, they are the ruling-class "intellectual elites". Ice, although your situation does not apply to me, I applaud you for having the danglies to take a stand. Freedoms have eroded because far too many keep their mouths shut and go along to get along. Being informed of our rights is a great defense. What's right is right even if some picky whiner doesn't like it. Ooh Rah!!

:up

Couldn't have put it better myself.

And to be fair, its not just HOAs anymore. Municipalities playing the same game with people's rights.

My neighbor's always complaining about the old motorcycle I display in my 'rock garden.'Oddly enough, it's impossible to see from their house except when they come on my property to empty their trash... but I guess just knowing it's there makes them feel bad.--Gary

or I'm a hacker and stealing HBO used to get that one. Kind of funny with all the church stuff up there

so today the roof guy came to survey the townhouses and let me know when they'll start. He goes around to our building on the back and sees my 3 and the neighbors dish right there. He asks "do these go to 4 buildings?"

I said "no...the 3 there are mine". He explained that they put the dish back up when done but cant guarantee that all the service is there. I said "dont worry. They'll come down the night before and I'll put them back up when you're done. Those are my babies so I'll take care of them."

He also saw the antenna on the roof and asked if I wanted that down too. I explained it still in use and I'll take care of it.

I did have to laugh as there are 4 buildings to take care of and there are 8 dishes
1 on 3 buildings
5 on ours.....3 of which are mine :)

so it looks like next Thursday I gotta take down the dish farm for the day ;)

actually the one motorized hasnt been touched in 6+ years now. Only thing that has been done is anew LNB's or new cabling....the dish and motor have stayed as is for that long now :)

Everything should be fine. This weekend I am going to ghetto rig a Phase III on the deck railing for D* for the time being...that one may stay on the deck

well after a delay with the roofers and rain I had to take down the dish farm today.
First it was going to be Thursday that my building was done. They were going to do building #4 Wednesday, mine Thursday, #2 Friday and #1 Saturday. Then everyone got pushed back a day (scheduling issue). Well then we realized #1 was getting something else done Monday so we flipped the schedule which would have put my building at Saturday (yesterday) as the redo. Rain Friday pushed everyone back another day so mine is tomorrow :)

Temporarily put the Directv on the deck but damn the roof looks weird. The one dish I took all the bolts off the plate of the mast and it wouldnt move. It was like "welded" to the shingles :)

I have a sneaking suspicion that my neighbor read OTARD (and realized she lost her argument)....or she just doesnt care anymore

They finished our roof and we were talking outside. I said "after they leave I'm going to go on the roof to check it out" and she said "oh I thought you would put all your stuff back up"

I said "nah not yet...too warm out"

D* dish and distant VHF antenna is up for KEYC 12 :)
rest is to be done Wednesday when its cooler (well less humid) out

yes, inspect their work

Any chance there'll be rain before you reinstall the dishes?
'Cause if you find any leaks after you restore your dishes, the roofing company will use that to try to wiggle out of fixing 'em.

we had rain last night ;)

nope the roofing company has it in their quote I have that says they will take care if there is leaking due to a dish.....and anyways my installs are a helluva lot better than what they did ;)

I am ready for winter! Much easier to work on things. My 3 dishes are spread out on the back patio all ready to go up. Poles laying on the ground waiting for someone to dig a hole, but geesh it was only 105 yesterday and 106 today. Maybe when we cool off to 98 next week.
