There has been lots of talk about using a STARCHOICE Receiver modified and sold to us to get the newer codec's and HD with DC-2. I think If NPS, SRL and Skyvision would get together on this one they may be able to make a go of it. If nothing else it would be great if we could at least get all the channels HITS offers on there few satellites beamed at cable company's. Kind of like an extension of what Skyvision is doing with W5 alone.

Channel Lineup on HITS: Digital Cable Programming Lineup - HITS Quantum from Comcast Media Center

The lineup above would be well worth it if we had access. Does anyone at the top at Satellite Guys have any kind of working relationship with any of the companies, and could put a good word in for something like this at a management level?

This is really needed for the 4D subscription base to keep up with the quick changing digital world.

wish ya luck:

I'm not an active 4D'er, so pardon if this is a stupid question . . .

That seems to be about four orbital locations (?) and both polarities.
How would an end user move his dish from one to the other, with a Starchoice receiver?
To be successful, a solution needs to appeal to what we hams call, the "appliance operator", not just the highly technical inclined.
If there's a good answer, that moves this idea to the head of the line - :up

itd seem this would require some new code on the reciever side. im sure a lnbf and a vbox with the right reciever code would work nicely. itd rock if my 505 would do 4dtv.

crackt out,

Oh it would require a dish mover of some sort, (H/V is already in the box if you couldn't control it with what you have) That's a given for C band. It could operate like a 905 does now or use it with a v-box. That's not the problem, The problem is getting a box that can receive all the HITS modes stuff. Most of everything wanted is subscribe-able on those birds. Dealing with HITS would take the hassles of trying to obtain the DC combo etc masters and ones in Powervu that well we could never get a decoder for. NPS also would no longer have to reuplink those High Quality Channels :rant:on G3.

I wish I knew some of the players required for this (I know...wishing gets you noowt), it is aggrivating that capable equipment exists, with a mod it would open up more options to people.

Of course the #1 question is who is the customer base and how many are there?

What would be an idea, is if some 3rd party were authorised to mod boxes and activate them for consumers, with a minimum buy in of 1,000 units or something (for the supplie not the consumer!)
