Master Chef: Season 4

You know, the more I watch Master Chef, the more I realize I don't care about the team challenges. I love the mystery box and elimination rounds. I just wish they would show more how they are cooking what they cook. Not necessarily a "how to", but more info on what they do to get the results they get. Sometimes the editing is so concentrated on adding "drama" that they forget it's a show about cooking...

That's why I like Masterchef Australia the best. It has its problems too, one being that it runs 75-80 episodes a season, but it does show more details of how they get from A-Z when cooking something. The US versions does try to add the drama and focus on it

Again. Watched the first episode. I'll watch the second tomorrow. Nice to see last year's winner. Her close namesake didn't do as well.

Heh I just started watching it from Ep 1. I don't really like the judges that much, because I don't know who they are. It does have more details on the cooking but also more drama. And overall, I feel like the "homechefs" are really like "homechefs". When I am watching US masterchef, I always wonder where do they find these incredible "homechefs"? One thing that really bugs me about the Aus Masterchef is that why does it take so long to kick out the bad chefs? Some of them are really really awful and yet they are in there forever episode after episode...

Are you watching the aussies from this 5th season episode 1 or the first season episode 1? It has changed a lot over the past 5 yrs. It takes so long to eliminate chefs because the season runs so long. It is aired 4 nights a week for 5 months. The first season was 80 some episodes and then they paired it down to around 70-72 episodes for seasons 2-4. They are up to episode 55 yesterday for the current season. One episode each week is also a Masterclass where the head judges demonstrate skill and technique for certain dishes.

I am watching Season 5 episode 1... actually now I am up to episode 9. I skip the cooking classes as I am not really trying to learn to cook. Just watching the contestants cook is enough for me. When I watch the US Masterchef, I feel like these people are secretly sou chefs or something. Even the "bad" ones are fairly good. In the Aus Masterchef, it seems that these are just randomly picked home cooks. But I think it actually makes a better show when you are sitting on the sofa and thinking..."hey I can do better than that!". :p
