Marlins BENCH Ramirez INDEFINATELY for 'lack of hustle'...

No, I wasn't sure, that's why I mentioned both. Looking back at your post now, I'm not sure why I couldn't figure out you were talking about Ramirez. Probably because I'm a dope. :)

Actually, I was listening to the FAN promote today's Mike Francessa interview with Mikhael Prokhorov, and I was a little drunk myself thinking about what a net worth of $13 BILLION actually means. :D

And he's 45 years old!

Sandra

I wish I was drunk, at least I would know the pain would be gone soon ....

I liked Paul, he started with the Reds, but I think Youk is much better than Paul, no disrespect to Paul.

I think Youkilis may be a better player than Paul O'Neill, but I'll take O'Neill anytime. If Hanley Ramirez was on the Yankees at the same time as Paul O'Neill, and Ramirez jogged after a ball...trust me, that would be the last time he would do that.

It's like the legend that Mark Messier threatened to break Kent Nilsson's legs if he didn't play hard, when both were on the Edmonton Oilers. ;)

Difference is, in Hockey, you break a leg and come back out for the next shift !

You mean as in "above the neck"? :D

No, above the waist.
in the NHL, during the playoffs specific injuries have to be reported, but are very vague.

you'll rarely see a players actual injury announced come playoff time.
things tend to end up being ''Upper or Lower body injuries"

My broken Arm might be reported as a "lower body injury" that's it ...
even if all the world knows what it is.

however, groin pulls are normally not vague, I guess they know your not messing around. :D

Actually, their yearly averages for offensive stats are surprisingly similar.

I don't rate a player's talent on potential. I think it is a blend of raw ability, like Ramirez has, and what that player does with the talent. Look at someone like Kevin Youkilis. Now I am no Boston fan, so don't think I am bumping him because of that. In fact, I am a Yankee fan. He plays at a higher level for his talent than Ramirez, who has much more raw talent. His career numbers are not that far off of Ramirez'. If Ramirez tried half as hard as Youkilis, I would agree completely with you. To me, Ramirez is nothing more than a spoiled brat who needs to be taken to the woodshed by his teammates. There must be someone in that clubhouse that will stand up to him and show him what it takes to make it in the big leagues.

Let's take two of your points. ONE, look at the line that Ramirez has had to hit in...and look at the lineup that Youkilis has hit in. Youkilis would have NO WHERE NEAR the stats he would have if he had the Marlins lineup the last 4 or 5 years. IF Ramirez was to have stayed in Boston.....with THAT lineup, he would have been considered AS GOOD if not BETTER than Mauer, A-Rod and ANYONE else in the American League.

Now, your other point about someone in the clubhouse to put an ass whippin' on Ramirez....there is. And they put him in his place, about 45 minutes ago, they announced he addressed the team....apologized and will play against the Cardinals. SOMEONE got to him.

By the way, where was the SOMEONE to address Manny in Boston. Nowhere to be found.

Good points, however there is another way to look at it. With a strong lineup, the better players are often pitched around. When the lineup is weak, you can afford to go after the stronger hitters. That's basic baseball. I did see that Ramirez apologized, good thing for him! As far as Manny and the situation in Boston, look what it ended up doing there. As good as he made the team, they are today paying for the turmoil he caused. They still don't have a strong leader there, IMHO.

Indefinitely=1 Day! If the Marlins had any balls, he wouldn't play for at least 10 games.

No....they did it right. They benched him DURING the game and the game after. Then it is up to the manager to 'nip the situation in the bud'. And that is exactly what was done. They told him to play, he needed to apologize TO THE TEAM. Freddi does not need an apology, he is there to manage the ENTIRE team, not buddy up with the stars of the team.

The manager did not give in....the star diva did.
