Manny's Gone

I can only speak for myself, but the Red Sox record had NOTHING to do with my disdain for Manny last July.

The Sox could have been the '27 Yankees reincarnated or clones of the 1988 Orioles, it didn't matter to me.

What DID matter was Manny pushing down a 64 year old traveling secretary, refusing to pinch hit in a big game, flopping around the field in Anaheim laughing, taking three straight pitches right down the pike in a pinch hitting role against Mo Rivera, slapping a teammate in the dugout, etc., etc., etc.

I was on record here last July, saying I DID'NT CARE if the Red Sox finished in LAST PLACE. Just get this bum out of town. This is not revisionist history.

You can speak for me also, Bill. That was what settled it for me also.

Report: Test results suggest Manny used steroids

Updated: May 15, 2009, 6:52 PM EST

Manny Ramirez's contention that a prescription drug led to his failed drug test took another hit Friday in the wake of a report from the Los Angeles Times.

According to the newspaper, which cited three unidentified sources, there was no trace of HCG (human chorionic gonadotropin) found in Ramirez's test. Instead, the drug test revealed a synthetic testosterone level more than four times that of the average male.

Since a suspension would have happened only if the report showed a banned substance, anti-doping experts said the absence of HCG, coupled with the league's action, indicates that Ramirez used steroids.

The paper, however, did not quote any anti-doping experts making that claim.

The paper said baseball officials had begun the disciplinary process for a positive drug test when they obtained his medical records that contained a prescription for HCG. That led to a suspension for just cause because Ramirez had not sought a "therapeutic use" exemption.

Once MLB had the prescription, Ramirez dropped the appeal and was suspended.

I already stated this a few pages back, a few days ago.
Evidently, it turns out that Manny did not test positive for this hormone. In fact, his blood test was negative. He was caught from a paper trail.

Sorry I missed that...good call. BUT remember, the media stated he test positive for a female hormonal type drug.

But the way, HOW many teams can lose a Manny Ramirez and have Juan Pierre just step in. I saw them this weekend and the Dodgers are very impressive.:up

Why is it that newspapers have investigative teams /doctors ect. The NY Times is great for coming up with this type of garbage.

I thought the cities has departments that did this kind of stuff, how does a newspaper have the money to have qualified doctors on staff , it seems the NY papers always are there to accuse people of this type of stuff weather it's drugs or busted for this or that .... amazing.

fwiw, had Ramarez NOT been doing something, the Players union would have fought it.

On the other hand, maybe Manny just wanted a vacation ???

I can't believe that they are allowed to play in the minors when suspended.

Does he still get paid for those games? If he wouldn't get paid I would have no problem with him playing in the minors, but if he did get paid then he really didn't get suspended for 50 games.

Don't know about that. Will have to search and see.

Manny went 1 for 3 with a HR. Robbed by the SS once and the 1b ump another time. Also went through a post menopausal rage when the 1b ump called him out (probably due to withdraws of that female hormone he was taking :D)

From a blog on today's LA Times:

In what turned out to be Manny Ramirez's last at-bat, Vin Scully, so matter-of-fact, made this of Manny's pop-up:

"[David] Eckstein goes out and calls it. That will be that. Manny goes 0 for 3."
And shortly after Fox Prime Ticket showed Dodgers Manager Joe Torre talking to Ramirez before Ramirez took off his batting helmet and walked out of the dugout, done for the night and replaced by Juan Pierre.
Which brought Scully to tell this little story of a song about an invisible man.
"There was the song, oh, gosh, a million years ago, Mr. Cellophane. The man was singing this woeful song. Nobody was aware of him, like he wasn't there. He was the invisible man. Juan Pierre said 'I am the invisible man.' Well, he is very visible right now."

That's when Pierre came into the game.

It's from the Broadway musical Chicago, which debuted in 1975. Which only seems like a million years ago.
