OK. I've been a Dish customer for years. With DirecTV picking up my HD locals the other day, and the fact that Dish will not have a chance with MLB Network, I am making the switch.

I want to do one TV for now. I want the best receiver available. For future reference, what is the deal with this 'Single Wire' stuff. I have coax drops from all the rooms to my DP44 switch. Is there a way I can utilize these drops for furture DirecTV receivers I may add??

How about good promotions currently being offered???

Thanks!

Best rec is the HR21 or HR22. Someone is going to post about an HR20, but I highly doubt you'll get one. SWM is the switch that allows a single wire to be split and go to multiple TVs. As far as existing wiring, that is up to the installer. I have found that if you have good wiring that was done well and is in good shape, the installer usually does not mind using it, especially if it will cut down on their work. Definitely point it out to him and explain what you want to do. He can give you your options.

Best deal? There's a thread on that somewhere. Maybe someone else has the link? Personally, I used Plasma Solutions. I dont know what their deal is now, but they have as sticky here.

If you're just getting one TV, you probably won't get or need a single-wire multiswitch. They'll just run two lines to your new box right from the dish, it will work fine.

For receiver, expect the HR21, which works great. Since your locals are in HD on D*, that's all you need.

For price, if you like NFL get the promo now with the NFL sunday ticket with free premier for 4 months. If you don't like NFL, ask them for a different promo on the standard packages, last I heard they did $18 off each month for a year or so.

Also see the referral sticky thread for $50 savings. Plasma Concepts (a sponsor here) also has an additional rebate, see their sticky thread. Last, if you're a AAA customer, they have a good $10/mo discount for 2 year as well.

If you don't get/need the SWM, make sure that all four lines are run from the dish. Then future upgrades will be easier.

I am going to go with Plasma Concepts. Based on coversations that I have had with them, they have had good luck when requesting SWM installs. I am going to go with 2 HD DVR's now, so hopefully that will increase my chances of getting SWM.

if not you could purchase these on ebay. that's what i did
