Not what I like to hear. I'd rather it said their reorganizing and expect to 'turn the corner' yet this year.
I'd still like to hear a layman's explanation of 'fraudulent transfer' as this is the first time I've heard of it.
 
I don't know about that, but it was this,

"...needs to generate about $700,000 per month to cover expenses, but brings in about $400,000 a month."

that made me think that even Jethro Bodine could see there's a difficult if not insurmountable problem.
 
This doesn´t sound good.

Mr. Winn said Luken Communications is considering several options, including streamling its operations or selling all its assets. He said no decision has been made yet. There are currently 38 employees.
Mr. Winn said tapes of old TV shows acquired by the firm are kept in a secure, climate-controlled building on East Eighth Street.

 
The bottom line is they barely bring in enough to cover salaries. They are privately owned so there is no way to raise funds in the public market. When they can't borrow to pay the bills then its over.

If they just want to run current content and prepackaged advertising then I'm sure one or two people could manage a network. Just automate everything and cut half your employees.
 
Oh man, tell me it ain't so!!

I like the saturday night stupid stuff. And I record the Harvey toons on PBJ twice a day. NO ONE ELSE has that stuff...

IP transmission is garbage. Look what happened to Whitesprings... They still do their streaming but it's 320x240 and about the size of a book of matches on my 1080p screens.
If you expand it to fill the screen it's horrific. I really liked Whitesprings, they play old, forgotten stuff...

Luken plays old, forgotten stuff too that no one else will carry and I like a lot of it.

Maybe Mr. Luke could sell a few of his mega-yachts and chill on the lavish lifestyle a bit and focus on running his business rather than wiping his butt with hundred dollar bills.

Not all internet streaming looks bad, luken makes a very small fraction of money compared to other diginets, some make over 200 million a year, for the networks to survive ip distribution may be the only answer, they should also start using more programming they own, 30,000 movies and tv shows limited rights on 10,000 more, if their content does not fit into a channel they own as an example retro tv then change the channels branding and focus, if its not quality or making enough money change it, maybe another company should handle the advertising if its done in house
 
The problem I have with this IP stuff is, getting it to my television. I have yet to find a little STB thingie that will let you enter specific addresses into them to watch. So far all the ones I have seen have baked in addresses like HULU, Netflix, etc. but darned if they will let me watch obscure sites like Whitesprings. And potentially, Luken stuff I suppose.. I have a WD thingie and it doesn't let you watch anything outside of what they want you to watch. The rest seem to be like that too.. :(

Getting it to your computer screen is easy. Getting it to your TV, not so much.. Getting it to look decent on your TV? HA!!!!
 
Sympathetic to your comment. When I went to buy my Internet-capable TV, I discovered the same. I can get youtube, Netflix, etc. but you can't get anything you want. I presume this is due to the TV company needing to sign a contract with each Internet site and be licenced to supply that site via its TV. To get the other sites, I must attach a computer to the TV which I have, but it's not convenient compared with the licenced sites for which I just push a couple of remote control buttons. Sites like Netflix and youtube HD look great.

My WD STB won't play youtube in HD no matter what even though it says it does.
Same with my LG Blu-ray player. It has a few baked in places it will go to and that's it, period. It has youtube HD but it won't play the HD videos, period.
Back when that silly Korean song took the world by storm, I had to go see what all the silliness was about. I go to youtube via the WD and the Blu-ray and the video was sooooo horrible that it was unwatchable, it was playing the lowest resolution available, 240 lines. YUCK!!!!!!

I go to my Mac and I could watch the same video in 1080p... This renders the youtube apps baked into those gadgets, useless to me.. :(

One thing I discovered thanks to my WD and LG Blu-ray is DLNA. I did some homework and discovered the app called PLEX Media Server. I installed it on my Windows PC that only exists to operate as my FTA tuner/recorder and I also installed it on my Mac. I can, via my iPhone, my WD and the LG, view all the saved videos. Sometimes.... It seems to be very finicky and sometimes the shares won't show or won't play. All my PC's are connected by 1,000 gigabit ethernet (and a gigabit 8 way hub) but the STB stuff is all the much slower 100 megabit stuff. I bought a WIFI N router and WIFI N plugins for the STB's but they are very flakey and drop out a lot. If only they would have gigabit ethernet on the STB devices.... I don't know why they don't, everything is going that way now.

I guess my flat screen Vizio (32" 2009 model) is just too old and basic, it has zero internet stuff built in, it's just a simple TV. I want to get like a 70" set and move this old set to my kitchen.

I've tried to update all my stuff to be current but I found out that's a game you can not win at unless you have an unlimited supply of money because they obsolete things overnight.

Bought a new TV yesterday? Oh, so sorry to hear about that. Maybe you can get the new and improved model tomorrow and sell this obsolete one on ebay for pennies on the dollar.. Good luck with that.. :(
