Hi there, I live in Charlottesville, VA, and when I first started up with Dish 4 years ago, I could receive locals. Then almost a year ago, they switched everybody over to a satellite that was low on the Southern horizon, and myself and lots of other folks here were not able to get a good line of sight, so we lost all our locals. I've had 4 techs out here with their equipment to verify that. Seems that locals are carried on 129, which is on the Western arc satellite.

The last batch said not to worry, the Eastern arc satellite was going up, and I should be able to get locals, they would install a new dish on the roof, and all would be well. So, in early October techs come out, said that there was poor communication between the sales office and the field and that the Eastern arc was not fully online yet, and I was one of many customers promised a new dish to get locals, but they were unable to do it because it was not up and running fully yet. I was supposed to call in a month.

Just spent over an hour on the phone with a higher level TS person, who informed me that the Eastern arc satellite will not carry 129, so no matter what I wouldn't be able to get locals.

So, what's the deal here - what is the relationship with this new Ciel-2 and 129? Will locals for my area still be carried by 129, or is there some sort of switchover going to occur? Knowledgeable advice from those in the know is appreciated!

Ciel-2 will definitely be at 129, so it does not help you.

There is a thread on which markets will be added to Eastern Arc at:

http://www.satelliteguys.us/dish-network-forum/154264-new-ea-markets-nov-19-a.html

You can also search this forum for "Charlottesville" and if you don't come up with anything, then no one here is likely to know more than Dish's representatives.

There are 200 markets in the USA, so it is hard for members to know about them all...

Unfortunately for you, Charlottesville, VA is the 183rd ranked market. Dish has a lot of larger market to HD locals on before thay can even worry about getting your locals on a better sat for you to see. Ciel-2 is at 129 and cannot change you LOS. Maybe in a few years when Nimiq-5 and Quetzsat-1 come on at 72.7 and 77, one of which may have the spots needed to cover you.

Also 129 is not part of the Eastern Arc. Eastern Arc is composed of satellite locations 61.5, 72.7 and 77 . Western Arc is 110,119 and 129. You would need a different dish pointing to the SSE to pick up Eastern Arc instead of the current Western Arc dishes that point to the SSW

If you can appreciate nearby-city locals, rather than Charlottesville locals, just "move" to either Richmond or Washington D.C. That would require a wing dish on 61.5.

Echostar 5 to move to 148° West
