DISH would LOVE to have a HD only package but honestly the programmers are saying NO.
Then, what is Dish America, Bronze, silver and gold, but HD only packs.

This is on top of the current Directv package savings.
This is the best deal I have found for new Directv customers. Will only work if you are a new customer, and requires a 2 year commitment.
Follow the instructions below to save $280 on top of the current Directv package savings.
Go to the Costco website here: Costco Directv offer
Click the button that says "residential customers click here"
Then after that page comes up, click on any of the orange buttons that says "Learn more"
That brings up the cart page where you select the package and equipment that you want. This will also allow you to see what you payments will be for the next 2 years.
Now that you are on the cart page, paste this link in your address bar: DIRECTV: Referral Program
Type in an account number from a friend or another source and click "get directv now".
That will bring you back to the cart page, and should show your first 10 months are $10 lower.
Make sure that a Costco banner is displayed at the top of the page, if it isnt, you will not get the $180 Costco cash card.
Continue checkout as normal.
Print copies of everything as proof.
Done
Note: I did not get a confirmation about the $180 Costco cash card, it was Fedex'd to me 3 weeks after the install date
Another note: Avoid signing up by phone, do everything online. I tried to do this by phone initially and they messed up everything from not giving me the $100 referral discount, spelling my name wrong, and entering the wrong email address. It was so bad that I had to cancel and re-order online.
I just got off the phone with Dish, not totally happy but I kind of knew this day would eventually come. I switched to Dish America Silver with Platinum addon free for 1 year. Here's the break down of before and after costs:
Before:
722k Receiver serving two TVs ($6)
Dish Absolute ($29.99)
Total monthly bill + tax = $35.99
After:
722k Receiver serving two TVs ($6)
Dish America Silver ($44.99)
HD Platinum addon ($10.00)
$10 credit for one year for Platinum
Total = 50.99 + tax per month for the first year
Notes: I spoke to two different reps, there's no $10 credit for the core package. Also Platinum won't go live on my account until February 1st (I'm not really sure why but I intend to use chat to see if I can get that changed)
You won't get the $10 credit on package programming UNLESS you go with one of the base America's Top 120, 120+, 200, 250 or Everything Pack.
It is actually in your best interest to take one of these packages with the 10$ discount as the price comes out the same as a Dish America package (this is after the price increase). You won't get the $10 credit on package programming UNLESS you go with one of the base America's Top 120, 120+, 200, 250 or Everything Pack.
I am led to believe that the Dish America Paks may disappear soon, They are not as easy to find on the Dish Packages link and Dish doesn't seem to promote these packages as they once did. Tthe curious thing about the AmericaPaks is the.absence off of Fox News
Looking at channels we watch, Dish America (the lowest plan) is best for us. We lose a few channels we watch, but with each step up in price the channels added aren't worth it. So, maybe my cost goes down for the first year?
Dish America = +30
Plan Credit = -10
Platinum = +10
Plat Credit = -10
DVR Fee = +6
Total $26 as opposed to my current $36 for Absolute and DVR.
Another q - why is everyone switching now? Why not wait until 1/31 or 2/1?
DISH would LOVE to have a HD only package but honestly the programmers are saying NO.
By the way, for those on other plans who are now happy to see Absolute gone, I want to point out that HD Absolute wasn't anything exclusive: this plan was available to everyone when it was first introduced. So, you could've signed for it too, but you chose not to!
Most of us have chosen this plan, not because it was cheap, but because it offered an excellent balance: the channels we wanted and not too many channels that we didn't want. It also promised "all future HD channels", so, to some extent it was a gamble on our part, which I think paid off.
To be fair, Dish did show loyalty to us, Absolute subscribers: they have grandfathered the plan and kept it alive for 2.5 years after it's been discontinued. They have even kept adding some new channels to it.
But I do agree that a gradual price increase would've been a much better course of action, than shutting down the plan completely...
... for as long as the plan existed. At the time, Dish Network “promoted” that the Absolute HD programming package would “get” all future HD channels added?
Maybe its about time the subcribers say NO!
NO to all the garbage channels they make you take!
NO to all the unwanted SD channels!
NO to exorbitant prices for too many unwanted channels!
We just might take a hiatus from pay TV and go antenna for a while, a long while.
I could absorb evena $10 rate hike on HD Absolute, but I don't like $20, $30 or $40 more per month.
My $60 per month can go elsewhere.
If we as a group step away from Dish and Direct and Cable they would notice, but it has to be a concerted effort.
