Losing HD Absolute. Any suggestions?

What loss of DVR functionality??

timeshifting or maybe they called it time warping, you can google it, dish had patented tivo features on their dvr and they were forced to remove them

it's a pretty cool feature too, you can be watching a recorded show and then go to live tv and rewind or record anything that was "buffering", since removing that feature any change off a channel at all and anything that was recording in the buffer is lost, including watching recorded shows

Two of the best channels in Absolute IMHO…I just can’t justify having to pay so much to keep Natgeo and Science with Dish. I can get a much better deal switching over to a bundled package with Verizon Fios.

nat. geo was one of my fav. channels, losing it is one of the reason I decided to cancel, I would have to be on dish america gold to get it back

Is that documented as being lost because of Tivo? Or did they just stop the continuous recording function because of space reasons with HD?

You could never change the channel, and then go back to what was recording on a different channel.

How often did you actually use that functionality?

I criticized equipment or providers not people. I went thru all of my post on this thread to make sure of that.

You basically insulted them for changing......"Hope you like that XXX DVR", or "Hope you like that crappy XYZ cable company". Like they had a choice......(dollar-wise)

(Hard to break bad habits, I guess)

I'm positive they would have been very content to stay with Dish and their current package had Dish not forced their hand.

ANd now you're in the same boat.

You could have gotten Dish Latino Max HD and received that channel, and the package is cheaper.

Yeah, but still not nearly as cheap as Absolute:mad:

Latino Max hd will be $59 + dvr fee, effective 2/1; even with the Double D applied
(the Dish Discount), it's still gonna be a tidy sum more than Absolute, especially when you've got one or two "must have" channels that end up costing you $$ each month.

I wouldn't have even looked for another content provider if they left me alone. I have been with Dish for 10 years and I have been happy with them.

I am having U-Verse installed this weekend and I will compare the two. If I can't decide what I like better then I will put my account on hold (I haven't had a contract in years).

That said, I have to say U-Verse in my area seems strong. They have the latest technology available to us. I do wish Fios was available, though. That seems to be the gold standard for PQ.

No doubt, but it's cheaper($57.99) than Top 250 ($69.99) and Dish Am Gold($59.99), which was my point, and he wanted Nat Geo. We're getting screwed no matter what.

As I said I criticized the equipment and a company. I warned one that the equipment they will be getting is crap. I insulted the cable co not the person. You seem to not know the difference in criticizing things or companies rather than the person that was forced into a decision that they didn't want to make. Please learn the difference as you are doing your best to bait me into B'n at you. I'm not taking the bait. In fact I even thanked you for pointing out that I can get Latino Max and get a better programming choice that will let me keep Nat Geo.

BIG NEWS just had a chat with dish

Interesting … maybe more customers are dropping Dish than was expected??? Offering more incentives might keep more customers, so I plan to hold out till any change takes place.

As expected, I have made no change to my account and no change has been made on my February bill. If things change after Feb 1st it should show up on the bill for March.

Here’s the part of my statement that shows no change in my charges. I do pay $17 extra for my 2nd 722 receiver.

This doesn't mean anything, but I got my bill for next month...no change on my Absolute, and got charged my $.01 for Cinemax.

Sounds as if they're getting a lot of negative feedback and are scrambling to keep their subscribers.

I don't think they are scrambling to keep subs they lose money on.

Was the BIG NEWS a joke? The OTA for life makes it seem so. Just wondering.
Can't you get it in writing from Dish ceo@dishnetwork.com? i.e. If HD Only packs are not allowed by your programmers how come you are keeping other HD Only packs? If I switch now due to the letter you sent, then you keep HD Absolute after 2-1, I consider that a bait and switch of sorts to get me off the package. Will you switch me back if you keep the pack?

Also can't one schedule an install from D* after 2-1? THEN cancel the install before signing the contract? If you order now you lock in the rate. I can create the excel chart. I just need an updated Absolute channel list.

Sundown, I noticed that you were charged $29.99 for Absolute w/Locals. I dropped locals to save $6 on locals I can get OTA, but have been charged at $29.99 since then, and it looks like the locals are now included. To anyone... when was the price dropped for everyone else with the included locals? I'd like to know so I can get more credits on this conversion.

I think I found my answer, but please verify... it looks like October...

Just wondering if it was all a joke since some are taking it seriously (not the OTA, the BIG NEWS). I got the exploit working for an extra $60 off D*.
Here it is:
DIRECTV Exploit? $180 Costco cash + $100 Referal + $5 MORE. How do I get this back? Best option for Absolute?
I think this may be the best option for HD Absolute subs. You get many channels like NatGeo, Science in the 2nd pack. Then you get channels like HDNet w/o having to pay for platinum. I got it for my friend who has Absolute, but is not good with computers. She got it, question is how to get it back for me.

I browsed the DIRECTV MAS site and had to select $5 off in order for the extra $ off. I got a pop-up. Then I went to (to switch the package):
Costco.com: No One Offers Better HD Than DIRECTV
Select a package.
DIRECTV: Referral Program in the same browser. Enter an ID. I used 44375412

Before I get comments. This person has something related to cancer. He is blind in one eye, in a wheelchair and has tons of other problems.
