I was looking to switch from Dish to DTV and find info hard to come by on their site. I called and was connected somewhere that English is not the 1st language.
1. Are locals included in package prices?
2. What DVR do you get?
3. Are the minis wireless?
4.How many events can be recorded at one time? I am used to a Hopper with 12.
5. Any tips for not getting screwed for new customer?

Thanx

Hopper 3 has 16 satellite tuners.

Be sure to ask about DTV OTA support.

- Yes, locals are included in package pricing
- It depends. If you want 4K channels you'd get either a HR54 or HS17 Genie. If you want more then one DVR box on your account you can't have the HS17.
- The mini clients can be either wired via coax or wireless, depends on what you want. If you go wireless I'd recommend demanding the C61W clients vs the C41W's they work much better. If you want 4K clients they are only wired.
- For HR44/54 it's three, for HS17 it's five IIRC, sorry don't remember for sure.
- Get all the hardware you want at the time you become a customer, once they have you in the 2 year commitment they don't make you many deals.

If OTA channels via your DVR are important, right now DIRECTV doesn't have a solution for you unless you're in an area that's in a local channel rebroadcast dispute, where you can get the local channel connector. But even then it's not supported unless you have a HR44/54.

Remember if you have other AT&T services you can bundle your services for additional discounts. I get HBO for free plus bill credit, which you won't get with a Hopper.

The Genie Records 5 Programs at a time.. The Genie 2 7.. Not 3 and 5

If you tell us why you are interested in switching and what you have with Dish now, it might help us guide you to the right combination of hardware and services to serve your needs best. Also, as others have mentioned, if you have any other AT&T services already, it might help you get the best deal on DirecTV.

Preferred Xtra Package?
