Locals too compressed?

Something I noticed this weekend. On my locals, the picture is very soft and there is a lot of banding on the color. I assume this is from the signal being overly compressed. The banding really diminishes the picture, especially if you record a program. I checked the OTA analog signal and the color was actually better than E*'s re-transmission of the same progam although there is typical analog interference.

The national channels do not seem to have this problem.

Anyone else notice this on their locals or is this isolated?

Compression is the key to any picture quality. Part of the reason your OTAs look good is they are virtually uncompressed while the ones sent from E* are not only compressed, but modulated and demodulated.

As far as local HD and what they will look like, let's wait and see.
