locals problem

I just got new h24 hd receivers to replace my old receivers. I have my sony SDTV hooked up to the receiver using RCA cables. everything works fine. I wasn't happy with the pic quality, so I hooked the receiver up to the TV using component cables. all the channels work great (better than just the RCA cables) except for my locals. anybody have any clue why the locals don't work right? It looks like the settings on the receiver aren't set right, but I don't understand why only certain channels are distorted.

Is it all of your DirecTV delivered locals?

it is ALL locals. The signal strengths all look good except the (s) satellites. I'm not sure which satellite is actually carrying the locals. they do come in fine with the RCA cables though. I'm thinking that it has something to do with the picture quality that my tv can handle (ie 480i, 480p etc.). When I go through the menu to make sure my tv can work in the different modes, it accepts all modes with the rca cables. I can't use some of the modes with the component cables (720 , 1080).
It may just be my tv limitations.

The RCA output (composite - yellow/red/white) from the HR24 can only be 480i. The component (RGB) can output all resolutions from 480i to 1080p. The TV may accept all modes, but it is concerting to what it can display. What model is the TV?

Why your locals only work with one set of outputs is confusing.
